Butch Jones record with 10+ days off: 10-4

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what Butch Jones' record is in games he's not favored in? Just wondering how often this coaching staff has pulled off an upset...

South Carolina is a very good team. I think too many people are just counting we come out like that second half versus UGA. I think we can win but the there is a talent gap between the two teams and CBJ will have to outcoach Spurrier to get over it and have a few breaks go our way.

It will be a uphill fight to win this one.

Lol leave it to Fade Route to come along and rain on the parade.

This team is riding a wave of confidence and positive energy that has been known to propel teams to upset wins in the past. But they've got their work cut out for them between the sidelines. If our young pups outplay their "all-SEC" type veterans (especially their defense), then there should be no questioning Butch's ability to get his players ready.

Lulz at all of you. Those stats mean absolutely nothing in regards to predicting the outcome of this Saturdays game. Different team, different opponent. Different conference, different year. Good grief.

You are being too dismissive.

Nobody says they are an absolute indicator. But the evidence suggests CBJ fully utilizes his extra preparation time which manifests itself in an excellent post bye week win loss record. It is cause for optimism.

Just for the record, I remember the WVU game he lost at Cinci, and they got hosed by the refs on something, can't remember what. Point is, they shoulda win that game against a much better WVU team at the time!

reminds me of the UT/ UGA game couple weeks ago..... Refs calling bs pass interference calls, etc which helped UGA win.JMO

Folks. This is going to be a great game this weekend, but I have no doubt our guys will be ready.
Why? With 10+ days rest:
* Coach Jones' teams are 10-4, including bowl games.
* They have won 9 of the last 11.
* They have won 7 of the last 8.
* The last four victims are Va Tech, Vandy, Pitt, and Louisville.
* The last loss came at West Virginia in 2010, a team that finished #22 in the BCS rankings.
* The loss at West Virginia is Butch's only loss with the full bye week, 14 days rest before a non-bowl game. Interestingly, WVU had 15 days rest before this one, having played on a Friday before a bye week.
* Average score is 34 - 28.
*Average score last 11 is 31 - 24.
* 3 of the 4 losses were by 3 points.
Now I fully expect South Carolina to come in here ready to play and knowing the fight they are in for. I still think we win 27-24.
If for any reason the Gamecocks don't come in with the proper game motivation, they are gonna get Butch slapped hard.
Oh, and looking ahead we have a bye week before Vandy comes to Neyland and we will likely have the opportunity to eliminate them from bowl contention.

Your post has Butch and team #117 just simply...

If Jones can take this squad and beat a very good S. Carolina team, most everyone will recognize we are indeed headed in the right direction, no question about it.

Assuming the 10-4 is correct, then Butch is 43-26 with 9- days rest. That's pretty good too, especially since these numbers include talent-depleted team this year.

Respectfully, you are wrong.

If past performance did not correlate to future performance, then no Athletic Director would ever be able to make a hiring decision.

Butch Jones has a record as a head coach. We can look at that record to get an idea of what kind of coach he will be going forward. His teams have been very good after rest at two previous schools. It is not a stretch to expect that to carryover to his time on Rocky Top.

Even if Tennessee loses Saturday I still think Jones is leading this team in the right direction.

irrelevent in that it probably is similar to his overall record regardless of time off.....But I'll cling to anything at this point. A Win is in the bag: :)

The numbers show a clear divergence with extra prep time, therefore I would say this line of thinking is relevant.

10 - 4 on 10+ days rest for 71.4% wins

vs

43 - 26 all other games for 62.3% wins

OR, if you prefer

8-1 post bye week for 88% wins

vs

45-29 in all other games for 60.8% wins

I am curious does this statistic include opening day or is it only 10+ days after the season started? Thanks in advance

It's meaningful if a coach does well after a bye. It indicates good preparation skills. Butch certainly seems to have those so far.

It's a pretty minor thing, but it doesn't matter. We have a great shot in this one even without the stats from the OP.

No doubt he's got us going in the right direction... just a question of how fast IMO. If he beats SCar it's accelerated and we're ahead of pace.
