He says he'll bring championships
That is my expectation

I was initially very down about the hire. The more I've researched him and his staff and listened to what he has stated the more the negativity falls away. He may not be the next Saban but he is a damned fine coach. He's more proven than most of the coaches that got their 1st start in he SEC. Below are some of my favorite attributes of Jones that I've learned so far.

  • Conference Champion 4 of 6 years
  • Bowl appearances 5 of 6 years
  • Last bowl win was against Vandy
  • Defeated Strong, our first choice, 2 of 3 meetings
  • He's bringing a staff with over 20 cumulative years experience coaching with him and within his system. Several have been with him all 6 years.
  • .650 combined record through 2 programs
  • Better recruiting classes at the programs he's been HC than his predecessor Kelly
  • 83% of his seasons were 8 wins or better
  • 50% of his seasons were 9 wins or greater
  • 33% of his seasons ended with 10 wins or better
  • At every previous HC job he's made it to 10 wins within 3 years.

Now the other teams REALLY won't have Tennessee to kick around anymore

I really like your enthusiasm. And I hate to be the voice of reason, but, CBJ was 4-8 his first year with the Bearcats. Our Football schedule next year doesn't do him any favors either. Now come year two I believe we will be headed the right direction, and then teams really won't have Tennessee to kick around anymore!

This is funny. Why doesn't he call it what it really is. Conference co-Championships. 3 or 4 way tie "Championships." Only played 1 top 30 team in the last 2 seasons, and lost to them. There are no co-Champions in the SEC anymore, unless you are shooting for co-Champions of the SEC East.

Same here DD.

My first thought was...we fired a coach and hired one of the few he beat?!?

After the initial shock....Coach Jones looks to be a solid hire.

I agree. I was unimpressed at first but the more I look into him and listen to what he's saying the more I like the hire.

Someone should have posted the "It's a trap" picture from Star Wars when we hired Dooley.

Well, to be frank, European theater allies were a collection of buffoons. Not the grunts, just their commanders. Montgomery was an egoistically and overrated jackass. American commander. Ike was overly cautious and even timid. He even drafted a letter before D-Day to pre-acknowledge the landing failure and slaughter of soldiers on the beach. Then there was Hitler stupidly overruling his generals on strategy time and again. Luck, God, the weather, and the timing of each of these elements all conspired to put circumstances in favor of Allied success.

The only real brains for the allies were Patton and Bradley. Patton was held in check too long by Ike, Montgomery, and I think to some extent by Bradley as well. Otherwise Patton would have flatten the Germans and marched right into Russia, we'd not have had the cold war if he was let loose. But he slapped a soldier in the North African campaign (or Italian campaign, I forget) so they muzzled him. Well, anyway, how this reflects on CBJ, I'm not sure you got it right.

As for DD, a shame fans can't appreciate the positives he did managed. Under him, we moved away from being Thug University. Look what happen to I think two players right after DD left. He actually upgraded our recruits and built the roster better than it had been from the late PF and LK eras. But I guess some folks just have to kick other folks when they're down. Kick again and again instead of moving on.

CBJ, welcome and I hope you bring the UT back to where it belongs. Being a terror to every team we play.

Slapped him in Sicily

As long as I don't see the same stupid mistakes (12 men, 10 men, quitting..ect..) from year 0 to year whatever will be an improvment. Other than filling out the roster the team has not progressed under DD's leadership.

"We're just not a very good football team"

Holy hell. Just because it's true doesn't mean you have to say that at the end of every practice/SEC ass whipping, coach.

I agree with you. I think this was one of Dooley's biggest mistakes.

He ended up convincing his team that they weren't ever good enough to win. And they played like it.

Should have been one of the questions at the press conference, "Coach, are you aware how many players should be on the field during any one play?"

I can still hope Jerry from Bulls Gap gets it in during his first Vol Calls.

Better than "Year Zero".
Also better than "I don't know. ".

I don't know why the QB isn't playing well.

I don't know why the bamboo isn't growing.

I don't know why I compared the Vols to the German army.

Thought habits lead to you attitude... your attitude ALWAYS determines your actions and results.

The guy expects to win. He doesn't "hope" to succeed or wish he could succeed. If he can pass that on to the players then UT will win.

FTR, I hope he is just as honest as DD but has more positive things to be honest about. I surely don't want to go back to Fulmerisms.
