Better than Dooley's famous line of "Well, we wanted to do that but obviously for whatever reason it just didnt workout for us."

...As for DD, a shame fans can't appreciate the positives he did managed. Under him, we moved away from being Thug University. Look what happen to I think two players right after DD left. He actually upgraded our recruits and built the roster better than it had been from the late PF and LK eras..

After having a son who did both high school football and band at the same time...the influence coaches/directors have on your son is huge.

I wouldn't have liked sending my son on to a college team with such a bad reputation as Fulmer and Kiffen had...too much crime was tolerated not to mention the drug problems that were obviously overlooked IMO...
I'll give DD the credit for that...he did clean it up like we asked him to...just too bad that's all he did.

The main thing the families of new recruits will appreciate that DD did do for UT...was clean up the mess PFand LK left him with...a roster of hoodlums that kept embarrassing the university...DD didn't play when it came to law breakers and I respected DD for that.

Let's hope CBJ doesn't play either...no lawbreakers
should be tolerated.

It's disappointing for UT students like my son who were athletes...to sit in the stands with the UT band as a former football player, and see anyone not be giving their best both on and off the field ...and say they are an athlete.

Our image is ALOT better than what it was...it was something like 52 arrests under PF/LK? and that's just the ones we KNOW about...shameful!!!

Thanks DD for at least doing that for UT.

Let's encourage Coach BJ to stick to his guns
and insist on quality athletes both on and off the field.

Go Vols!!

Talk is cheap and no one will really know till we get to that first game - but having the attitude of a champion DOES make a difference - and will certainly help with recruting

First step in building these guys up. I think he saw that this was a team with potential but did not believe in themselves and it all stemmed from how the previous coach conducted himself and talked about the team. Get them focused on the big picture and not settle for less. I like the new attitude, hope it shows on the field. Have to get the guys to believing in themselves and knowing they can compete with anyone int he country.

So Dooley didn't want to win championships??? Is that what I'm understanding from reading this thread?? I'm being sarcastic...some...but seriously that's what some of yall sound like.

The guy was honest. I appreciate that and prefer it. Let's me actually create my own opinion. So many of yall saw the team we had coming this season and thought we should be winning championships this yr. He knew its faults and was telling us trying to bring us down to reality. He didn't say things cause he was stupid or out of malice. He did it to try to keep people grounded. Just cause many of yall didn't see it that way doesn't mean the guy is stupid. He came out and said something great and positive with the "they aren't gonna have UT to throw around anymore" and yet people use it against him now. In a way other than Bama (vandy when we were down) no one did throw us around. Yes we lost but the team fought hard til the end and made some of the best teams in the country fight for a win. Something that couldn't have been said last year. So this is the progress I saw.

So many got their hopes up and were disappointed and didn't see the positives. Then throw in the STUPID FOOLISH Grudenites seriously feeding the negativity and its not a surprise how the end of the season ended.

Dooley did some bad things that I'm sure he had reason for doing at the time and unfortunately were a lot of the visible stuff. But he did a lot of things that were good that many don't see. He did a lot more than just clean up the imagine of our players. Just wish people would understand ALL the stuff he had to do since day one. So much was wrong and the list was so long. Things can only be completed as time goes on and some have to be done before moving on to the next step. Which is how rebuilds work.

I'm on the fence on CBJ. I'm weary on the fact that his staff is full of his cincy guys. I wanted a bona fide DC this whole time. Obviously as a Dooley supporter I wanted him to stay and just throw whatever it took at the best DC. If we had money for this whole search then we would have saved a bunch on just going for a new DC. I just want people to be realistic with CBJ. Don't get in over their heads if he has some good wins in his first year. Its like my aggie friends that think that they are good to go fo eva eva but don't realize that 1st year success like this last one isn't a good indicator of the future. Or means that the program is on solid ground. I'll be taking this new regime day by day and see what happens. Just hope many of you do the same because imho that's the way it will have a chance to succeed.

This is funny. Why doesn't he call it what it really is. Conference co-Championships. 3 or 4 way tie "Championships." Only played 1 top 30 team in the last 2 seasons, and lost to them. There are no co-Champions in the SEC anymore, unless you are shooting for co-Champions of the SEC East.
Party pooper. :disappointed:

This. All this hype will turn out to ruin Jones if we don't get immediate success. Which, realistically, we might not. We don't know. And there's a lot to criticize Dooley for, but his attitude isn't one of them. I think he balanced compliments well with noting that there were improvements needed. And being honest when they weren't doing well. He'd be getting just as much (if not more) flack right now if he'd said "Everyone is AWESOME. We're doing just freaking dandy right now" every game and practice. I prefer someone who is upfront with their opinions. I guess not everyone does.

Dooley is like the Germans. Butch is like the Allies! Dooley is waiting on orders from Rommel, and Butch is handing orders to Patton!

Boom!

Dooley was more like the binoculars....you could look right through him and see the empending destruction that was about to happen

This is an example of CBJ working right from the start to change the attitudes and expectations of our players.

It's called a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA) which all successful people learn to adopt.

Before you can learn to become successful you must believe you can become as successful as you dream to become with enough time and hard work.

Championships is also the goal CBJ wants firmly implanted into their heads so they'll understand that the 1st goal is the SEC East Championship and then the SEC Championship followed by the National Championship.

Our players have never learned how to win, how to finish strong and get the Win in the last 4 minutes of a game no matter what.

The entire mindset of our footVol team has to be changed towards the positives with more step by step goals for each player as well as the entire team and that's what CBJ and his coaches are already working on to get changed.

I think things are already looking better and a positive mindset change is a solid 1st step in the right direction.

You can't win and become successful if you don't believe you can.

Exactly right! There is a difference in winning and just not losing. Neyland's Maxims are great differentiators in establishing those differences. Furthermore, the sign is "I will give my all..." not "I will try to give enough..."

"Giving my all" means pretty much crawling off the field. Don't see much of that----anymore.

This could go one of two ways. We either get a slam dunk of a hire or it's a miserable failure. I don't see any middle ground here.
