Butch Jones talks returning Tennessee to a championship program

I hope Butch works out at UT because his enthusiasm is much needed at UT at this time. However, touting his "championships" at UC is a bit stretching. Championship teams don't play in the Liberty and Belk Bowls when the "champion" of the conference gets a BCS bid.

I realize Butch is trying to instill a winning attitude at UT, and the fanbase is following along. But don't get too caught up with Butch's accomplishments when his championship team lost to Toledo last year.

Butch reminds me Pearl, and I mean that in a good way. I think back to how many times Pearl's D forced a turnover on the in-bounds pass. That is simply determination, and I think Butch's teams will bring the same intensity.

I look forward to this Fall. But UT will not compete for an SEC title, but they will play hard for 4 quarters. Add in a few top 10 recruiting classed that play hard and we're now back in business.

GO VOLS!

People forget that coaches like Saban and Meyer started out at not so elite programs.

Was this an actual quote of his? Did he say "Georgia, Florida and South Carolina"? If so, I LOVE the fact that he didn't mention Vanderbilt, thus reminding them that they aren't worthy of being mentioned at the big boy table.

Was it Josh Ward today that predicted a Vandy win at UT this year??

CBJ is a proven winner. He's put together a great staff and his recruiting is top notch. I honestly don't believe that Strong would've recruited this good at UT this early. Tennessee sells itself to some degree, but after three straight losing seasons you, me, or anybody else wouldn't have thought CBJ would pretty much take over the recruiting game like he has. He's gonna do big things here, I have no doubts.

This, plus winning will give him an even better advantage at getting top recruits in.

Speaking of winning.....some are gonna criticize me for this, but I think we do no worse than 7-5. I see all of these 6-6 and 5-7 predictions and just can't go along with it.

I'm cautiously optimistic that you are right. Its just that I've seen this movie a few times here on VN and would like it to end differently than it has so far.

I mean, Kiffin was easy to hate because he was a lying scumbag and in fairly short order I got to do the I Told Ya So dance.

Dooley was just so pathetic it killed the sport of it.

Hell, Fulmer was fun because it was a back and forth affair and i could poke fun at the clipboard clapping fool.

This guy has no excuses, it seems to me, if given enough time.

Now, had you hired Charlie Strong, that would have been a big cause for concern. Guy has pipeline into South Florida talent.

I don't care who we would've hired, you guys still would have got your pick of South Florida talent.

Not in so many words. It's just the way he speaks that let's us know he's only worried about the teams ahead of us.

We're going to be multiple on offense and we are going to be multiple on defense. Now I feel at home.

No, Butch did not say anything about beating any particular team, nor did he try to dis any team (no Kiffin jabs). He just talked about winning in general and championships as our goals.

South Florida is too far from Knoxville to ever be a real recruiting base for the Vols. Now Atlanta, Upstate South Carolina, Greater Charlotte, that's all an afternoon's drive and mama can still come see you play; and there's enough talent in these areas to win big. Just got to knock USCe and the Dawg's back to their rightful places to take full advantage.:dance2:

Great. Those kids in Cincinnati ?

You can have 'em.

Give me Miami Killian and Northwestern any day of the week.

Serious? I suggest you look into Cincinnati football and really Ohio football as a whole. Other than Florida and California I'm not sure there's any other states with better talent state wide.

The first-year coach said he wants his players to focus on the everyday process and not the end result when it comes the Volunteer's season.

Butch will not stop until he puts Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina in the rear view mirror. I love it that he only wants Championships, and is not going to settle for second place.

All in all, CBJ came across looking like a coach who has a plan at SEC Media Days.

Butch represents the program with confidence and class wherever he goes.

Not a big deal, but I just noticed CBJ sorta has mole hands :)
