Butch Reaching Out to Former Players

So, hopefully bUTch is making sure the former.players know about recruiting rules and the do's and don'ts if they are around the program and interacting with new recruits. The last thing we need is the NCAA to start sniffing around.for violations. I'm sure.bUTch and staff have addressed it.
Go Vols

Anybody heard what Inky Johnson has been up to? Is he coaching?

Had a book out last year and was pretty busy with modivational speaking and a book tour I believe. I have never heard of coaching, I would certainly pull for him if he did. He sure can inspire the pants of a person.

Multitasking is great but can he close, I can multitask as well, I can take a $h!, piss and talk on the phone at the same time, but the most important thing at the end is, is my a$! clean.
I think he'll get some to believe in him, but it'll take winning for others to follow.

So dem pipes in Cookeville are taking a beating while you evaluate our new coach...carry on brother

I like that and all but he needs to be reaching out to these recruits right now.:)
No he's not doing that so he needed you to tell him because he has absolutely no idea that's what he's supposed to be doing. I hope he's reading your comment so he can get back on track. Glad you came along to put it all in perspective. "Butch needs to recruit" Hmm.

The thing alot of people i think are failing to understand is that it's incredibly hard to bring in 4 and 5 stars with only a month on the job. CBJ was put in an awful position and inherited a terrible class, you guys have to give him time. 1 month is not anywhere near enough time to build relationships with some of these recruits, which is part of the reason he's been working like crazy for the 2014 class already. If we get a top 20 class this year i will be extremely pleased with the job he's done.

He needs to use a little hot sauce

I'm not excited about him being our new coach because I think he is unproven and not good enough yet to man an SEC program - that is, unless you consider us on the level of Ole Miss and Kentucky.
HOWEVER, I love the fact he has reached out to our former players unlike that snotnosed little Saban Wanna Be prick Doolander.

Not sure what qualifies one good enough to man an SEC program. Before Saban, Meyers, or Miles had success at a SEC program, they also were unproven. Coach Jones has proven that he is a winner.

Terry Fair said that CBJ told him he wanted to retire at UT. I love that he wants to be here. He has said this was his dream job over any other university. That's the type of coach I want leading the school I love. I wish CBJ all the success.

The vol's will have success with this coaching staff. And I believe it will happen in their first year. It's not always the fastest, largest, strongest. I'll take a team that can take care of the ball. Also knows their position and is there each play, does'nt hurt the team with costly penalties, especially at a crucial moment. And tackle, tackle, tackle. Swarm to the ball, Coach'em up fella's

Get real! What does proven mean in your little world? And not good enough to man an SEC program? How can you say that when he is only now becoming an SEC coach? He has a winning background as a head coach and Brian Kelly didn't seem to have too much trouble making the big leap from the same background. Sure the SEC is a big animal, but what was Dan Mullen's background as well? Was he good enough? How about Muschamp?

Muschamp was a coordinator at LSU,Auburn, and Texas before he became the 'Gators head coach;pretty good resume. Besides, Jones lost to Dooley. That alone should scare you.

"Dream job" seems like a bit of stretch unless his dream was to coach at any high profile school that would pay him at the top of the bell curve for college football coaches.

That said, I can see him staying for a while if he is successful. If he can bring the program back, there really isn't another school out there capable of offering significantly more in terms of tradition, facilities, exposure and of course personal compensation. If you want to coach in college football, Tennessee is a great job.

If he were an allum of a big school, I would be a little more concerned that he might fly to there.

I suppose that if he really knocked it out the park here, the NFL might come calling, but I don't know that his "infallible" system translates to the NFL all that well.

Hiring a coordinator into HC job is ALWAYS a risk. Sure, everyone has to start somewhere, but there a lot of very good coordinators that fall flat on their face in the HC role.

I certainly don't see how the argument of being a coordinator in the SEC is more valuable experience than actually running a program as a HC in another conference. The SEC is the best college football has to offer, but it is still college football.

Personally, I think the verdict is still out on Muschamp. He was certainly as least as big of a risk for UF as CBJ was for us.

He also went 10-3 that year. Beat NC State, Louisville, South FL, Pitt, West virginia...etc...etc.

Personally. I don't think Jones got beat by Dooley. His team got beat by a better team (at least that day) and scored 23 points on them. JMO though.

My understanding from his interviews is that UT became his dream job when he got off the Cinci bus (when they played against us). He said he fell in love with the area, facilities, fanbase and atmosphere. Said that he looked at the other coaches and went: "Wow!"

I can totally see UT having that effect on him. I can totally believe that UT became his dream job at that time. I can totally believe that he wants to retire here. Of course, as a staunch UT fan, it isn't hard to convince me that our program could have that kind of immediate effect on someone who loves football.

:hi:

I really like Butch Jones. If he can produce some "key" wins during the first couple of seasons, we need to give him time. I know the guy can coach and I believe the recruiting will come with time.
