Butch Reaching Out to Former Players

To me, he's the most exciting hire since Fulmer. Obviously, right? But even before Kiffin did what he did.

He also went 10-3 that year. Beat NC State, Louisville, South FL, Pitt, West virginia...etc...etc.

Personally. I don't think Jones got beat by Dooley. His team got beat by a better team (at least that day) and scored 23 points on them. JMO though.

Jones hurt his team with the failed attempts on fourth down. My fear with a spread is conversions on third/fourth and short.

Terry Fair said that CBJ told him he wanted to retire at UT. I love that he wants to be here. He has said this was his dream job over any other university. That's the type of coach I want leading the school I love. I wish CBJ all the success.

At this point, it will be difficult to seperate his legitimate feelings and the things that he says to impress people.

For instance, he knows that us, the fans, helped get Fulmer out of here. So, it would stand to reason that if a coach was well liked but had a poor performing team, then the fans would give him a "Pass" so to speak for a while. Whereas; a coach who is not well liked and has a poor performing team will not be given as much understanding.

So, these MIGHT be his true feelings about U.T. or he could be trying to win the favor of the fans, so as to take potential pressure off of him.

Remember Jerry Green, as the basketball coach? We made the tourney alot when he was here but he was not well liked and was not given the benefit of the doudt.

Had he been well liked, like Bruce Pearl was when he first arrived, then Green would have been fine.....

In that case....we may not actually be any worse off than last year when we passed downfield on 3rd/4th and short. At least in the spread, we will have an option to run. The hail mary pass didn't give us that option on 3rd and 1 last year.

I'm really not sure how I feel we will do with the spread, but my god, the play calling has GOT to be better than last year.

If you listened to Basilio's interview with BJ on 1/09/13, it is clear he has done his homework on the tradition side of things, BJ pointing out that UT has won more football games since 1927 than any school in the country, mentioning "SIX" N.C.'s (obviously of various stripes), and noting that UT is second in SEC titles. So, he obviously wishes to curry favor with the fan base. He is a good p.r. man, not as exuberant as Bruce Pearl but arguably just as good in the p.r. area. Compared to the dry attempts at wit by Dooley and the lack of warmth and personality by PF, he is a breath of fresh air. Now, to see what happens on the field next fall.

We couldn't get much worse on 3rd or 4th & short than we have been the last few years!! I think bUTch will coach em up good. I see us upsetting at least one of the 5 ranked teams we'll play next yr...maybe 2. I think he will get 110% out of everyone & we as fans can do our job by being at the games, being proud & being loud!!
GO BIG ORANGE!

I'm not excited about him being our new coach because I think he is unproven and not good enough yet to man an SEC program - that is, unless you consider us on the level of Ole Miss and Kentucky.
HOWEVER, I love the fact he has reached out to our former players unlike that snotnosed little Saban Wanna Be prick Doolander.

Do you actually like your user name? You loves you some Dooley.....wowza....wowza
