Buying a new truck.....

Don't buy new! Get something used with low miles. Your wallet will thank you later. I have had a Nissan truck for 7 years and it has been extremely reliable. I bought it with 22,000 miles on it, it now has 126,000. Only had to take it to a mechanic once for unscheduled maintenance.

Isnt he a Mazda dealer? Which is why he is pushing Ford.

I'd go Toyota and its not really close. It will hold its value a hell of a lot longer than anything else listed

I have no skin in this. Ford owns a 3% stake in Mazda. I'm just offering my opinion as a car guy.

You are correct about the Toyota and its residual value.

Ford.

Gmc/chevy- electrical issues. The 5.3's are total junk.

Dodge- only if getting it with a cummins. The others are trash. The interiors fall apart in them.

Just bought a used four door frontier. I was wanting a midsize truck to keep insurance down. Been pretty impressed with the power so far. Of course I had a ranger prior. My dream truck is a blacked out ram though

The Dodge has the most comfortable seating and best styling. Ford is a very durable work truck. GMC seats aren't as comfortable and GM's always have little things that annoy you but are very reliable and long lasting. Toyota Tundra, over priced, low mileage, nothing special. Japanese just haven't figured out trucks.

P.S-If I were going to go with diesel I'd probably go with Dodge. Don't like the Ford Diesel as much. Gas, I'd probably go with Silverado. Don't get the Ford Ecoboost. Too many problems.

I don't understand the appeal of GMC. Once upon a time they may have been more heavy duty, but now they're little more than appearance packages slapped onto Chevy's and GM then prices them as if they were Cadillacs.

No problem.

I'm coming at it from my dealership years. I never saw a massive difference, especially when buying new.

How long do you plan on keeping it?

The only thing I'd add is the new F150s have some questions to be answered regarded increased cost/time of repair and potentially increased insurance rates due to the aluminum panels...but I imagine that will be sorted out rather shortly.

I plan on driving it for at least 10 yrs, putting me somewhere in the 180-200K mi range. I will do very little towing, if any. I'm 6'3", but I don't have long legs. My height is all in my body so I sit really tall and need good headroom, if that makes sense. Through friends and co-workers, I've been able to at least sit in all of them but I haven't driven them all yet.

Basically I just want to avoid buying something and having problems 4 years later that are common to the model and known about by everybody but me.

I appreciate everyone's input! GO VOLS

I would like to think of myself as trustworthy. Especially when it comes to something where I have no stake in the game. When it comes to giving advice on passenger cars I will recommend Mazda if it is a smart option. I've loved Mazda before I worked for them.

Not all salespeople are but I try to work as ethically as possible.

I bought a 2012 dodge ram 1500 with 16,000 miles. So far a very good truck. Ford or dodge imo

I will attempt the bar exam in a few years. I couldn't afford to take it again. 😔

Do it man. Don't let that hard work and JD go unused. Especially don't wait too long because you will start forgetting a lot. But is freaking expensive though

Normally I would say GMC or Chevy (brand preference) but I was considering a 2015 and started to do some research.

Apparently a significant number of 2014s (15s as well?) have a real vibration problem at hwy speeds. Also, for some of these the issue is apparently unfixable with dealers changing tires, shocks, driveshafts, rear-ends and motor mounts.

Google Silverado/Sierra vibration and you'll find several videos documenting the problem and several threads (one is over 280 pages) documenting problems and problems in getting GM to fix it.

To add to that, I'm hearing complaints that the 5.3 with it's switching between V4 and V8 to be annoying and that the transmission/engine match results in a sluggish and delayed throttle response.

Finally, there have been a crapload of small recalls for the 2014s

Overall, I'm highly disappointed because I really like the new Silverado but I'll be shopping for a 2012/2013 to avoid these new problems.

CAVEAT: As with any Internet auto problem it is impossible to know how common the problems are and obviously many buyers experience none of these problems. However, there seems to be enough smoke around the vibration problem to send me in another direction.

I bought a 2014 F150 back in August. I love it. It has the twin turbo V6. Plenty of power with good gas milage. Averaging 18.5mpg around town.
