Buying a new truck.....

Just picked up a 2014 F-150 with the 6 cylinder. It's a work truck, going to the fleet but the short drive from the dealer to the office it felt solid and had plenty of power.

Not really my new truck (yet) but if it was the answer to your question would be neither. Just think it's a sweet truck. It a 2017 Raptor

Might want to hold off and see if that 10-speed DCT is going to hold up under use.

No diesel option. It's a sport truck.

6.2 liter with a supercharger available

They are designed to run 100+ mph across the desert.

That 6.2 is such a dog. My Ecoboost beats my friends raptor by a couple truck lengths and will out pull it as well. A super charger on it would be sweet, but goodnight fuel milage. Sounds good though.

I guess I'm inadequate too. I'd take one in a minute.

Not saying I wouldn't take one if given to me, I just wouldn't buy one. I'm not an offroader, so traveling at 100mph across the Atacama Desert has no appeal for me.

And with a starting price of 50 grand, I wonder how many Raptors actually see off-road use.

That's where I'm at with them. I'm not saying it isn't an impressive truck, it is. But 99% of the time, when I see them around Knoxville it just screams poser with maxed out credit. Its like some guy riding around in a Wrangler with surf boards strapped to it. It's pointless here.

I realize the vast majority of trucks never see their intended use most of the time anyway, but that Raptor is soooo far out there its nuts to me.

Give me a regular F150 and another $15k in my pocket, IMO.

That said, if they wanted to go back down the Lightning road, I'm all in. Hell, put a Raptor-esque appearance package on an FX4 and I'd be in favor.

I really liked the Tremor. The standard cab, SWB had perfect proportions and the blown V6 gave it great performance. It's a shame that their price, even in 2WD form, could approach the Raptor's.

I know, the $$$ was always the bad part.

I never understood how they get so far down the road on prices for trucks. Drives me nuts.

I realize they're addicted to the easy money they can bake in to the high line trucks so it's more or less pointless to ever wish for a decently optioned 'value' truck.

(I guess really what I'd like is a rebirth of a decent, small beat around truck. A modern day Ranger/Tacoma/S10/Hardbody successor. Maybe a diesel option that could pull off 30+ish MPG, or a gas option around 25-27. Base price around 18,500, well optioned at 22000. Sigh.)

...makes too much sense.

I was pretty optimistic about the new Chevy Colorado ushering in a smaller truck revolution, but it isn't selling that well so far.

It would be nice if they were actually small trucks like the Ranger and S10 of 15-20 years ago. The new Colorado is about the same size as the 1500 was not even 10 years ago.

They're just too damn expensive. Unless you get the penalty box fleet model (assuming you can even find one), you're almost instantly flirting with full size prices. In that price range, why bother with a smaller truck?

I think they focus too much on drawing in SUV buyers since they buy the higher line trucks with more profit built in.

It will take a manufacturer actually differentiating their small pickup enough for one to ever be successful.

And I'm not sure if one will ever do it.

Trying to narrow down the list. I've never owned a truck so
I have no experience with any of these models. Any info, insight, recommendations, etc would be helpful. These are the models I'm looking at.

2015 Ford F-150 Crew Cab
2015 Toyota Tundra CrewMax
2015 Ram 1500 Crew Cab
2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab

My .02:

I owned a 1999 F-250 (5.4 Gas) and a 2002 F-150 (4.6 gas). Both were very good dependable trucks with low maintenance costs. Interior held together well on both. The F-150 had 240k prior to selling.

Purchased a 2014 GMC 1500 in 2/13. As for drive-train and suspension, there are no issues. The interior leaves something to be desired and has had it's share of issues with wear on the climate control buttons and the back seat clips breaking.

FYI, GM is producing 1500's in Mexico (make code in VIN starts with 3) these days. The 2500 and 3500 series are still assembled in the US. If I had done my homework, I would have gone with the the 3/4 ton with a duramax.

I've never owned any mopar products but others I know have. Expect the cab and interior to begin failing within a few years.

So no vibration/shake issues? Good to hear.

I really think if some one is going to do it, it'll have to be someone like VW, Hyundai, or maybe Honda.

Someone who isn't entrenched in the full size game.

VW intrigues me because they're about the only ones that don't run away from diesels in the US. The problem is their pricing tends to get crazy.

So, what did you decide to go with?

I just got my 2015 F-150, SCrew, 3.5L ecoboost, Lariat, Fx4, 6.5ft bed about a week ago. I absolutely love it :dance2: Crappy cellphone pics...
