BYE WEEK = Who was Tennessee’s quarterback when you became a Tennessee fan?

I can remember who wasn't the UT quarterback when I became a Vols fan. It was the two Steves, Spurrier and Sloan, both from Tennesee and the two most heavily recruited quarterbacks that year. Spurrier went to Florida and won the Heisman, Sloan (a highschool classmate of mine) went to Alabama and won a national championship. Both passed on the Vols because Bowden Wyatt was the HC and was wedded to the single wing.

while i was technically alive for Peyton and Tee, Casey Clausen was the first one i remember and I was a huge fan. the icemannnn

My first game I watched (on TV, which was a very big deal back then) was the 1980 Bama game. The VOLS looked like crap, but they were my team from then on. I was 8.

--edit-- It was the ABC Game of the Week and I remember getting tired of Keith Jackson fluffing the Tide.
I was at that game. Rained the whole game except for 10 minutes when Charlie Daniels played at halftime with the band.

I also made in on TV. My seat was in the first row and the camera came right up to me.

Dewey Warren is the first name I remember (listening on the radio) but I believe Condredge Holloway was the first QB I saw play in Neyland.

When I was a kid my dad had 8 season tickets between the 20 and 30. We were maybe a row or two under the upper deck so in a drizzle we stayed dry. That was before the stadium was completely enclosed - the open end was to our left as we faced the field. My parents took us kids to one game a year - usually Kentucky or Vandy - because my dad was in sales and would take customers to most games (or give them his tickets).

OK, those of you who would dare lump me in with the whippersnappers, read this for meaning - I lived in several states and even more cities while growing up, but never in Tennessee. By the time that I graduated from my second high school, I'd been at it for just under six years. I applied to numerous colleges, was always accepted, but arranging the financing was difficult. In the Winter of 74, I'd been out of high school for awhile and worried that I wasn't going to be able to start come Fall term. My father told me he was going to take a job in Nashville, so I applied to UT. Not only did UT accept me, they committed to the financial aid that I needed by the end of April and threw in $500 from the general scholarship fund. I was going to college! I saw the campus for the first time the day I arrived to register for Fall term, 1974. I didn't know a soul, but quickly made friends and took turns waiting in line for student tickets. I believe that the first Vols game I attended was versus Kansas, and the electric QB was Condredge Holloway. I became a fan for life.

In the decades since graduating from UT in the Spring of 1979, I've seen more Vols games in other places than in Neyland stadium. There's a special camaraderie among traveling Vols fans, and it is in my marrow. In special appreciation for UT giving me the wherewithal to attend, I've earmarked my annual gifts to the University for the general scholarship fund.

Forever Orange!
GBO.
Kansas had the running QB that was really good, and he had a long career in the NFL with the Rams as a safety. I remember he gave us fits.

Had to Google him - Nolan Cromwell

My brother in law was your teammate on those Bradley teams, he was able to weasel a scholarship out of UTC ( UC back then) as a WR. Then he and my sister both quit school ( she was at UT) and ran off to Ringgold. Rather than get their education paid for, they went back years later on their own dime.

My first TN QB was Bubba Wyche.

With me being born in ‘84 and not completely understanding football until ‘94-‘95 it was Peyton for me. I’ve always loved UT though.

I wasn't sure where to post this but this is a former Vol Chavis Smith's food truck around the oak ridge area.... That fella does a great job cooking!
I highly recommend it!!

Heath Shuler. We transplanted to Knoxville when I was 5 and when my mom got with my Stepdad when I was about 10 it was 1993 and he got me rooting for UT. Gotta say I did come in at an easy time to become a fan.
