Byron Young flying

Kind of sad, as we certainly didn’t see this on the field.

I saw it on the field. You may have been looking down at your keyboard typing another Sad Sack post.
Example- BY chased the Clemson QB (a fast kid) to BY’s left for about 20 yards. The QB couldn’t get around the edge on BY, and threw it away.

Edit: There were actually TWO plays in Orange Bowl where BY ran down the Clemson QB while running to BY’s left toward the sidelines. One resulted in a sack for BY when the QB couldn’t outrun BY, and BY pushed him down. The 2nd play resulted in the QB throwing an off balance prayer that the Vols intercepted. So, just a sack and INT caused directly by BY’s speed!

Not saying he didn’t have his moments, but all in all, not the year I’d hoped for. Not sure by you have to make it personal. WTH is wrong with people here?

There were a couple mocks out there with him as a first rounder. I have a feeling he has jumped up the boards immensely. He just put himself into a lot of conversations. Hell a lot of wide outs and corners wont beat his slower time.

He should have been playing DB. People still thinking Banks is a good DC. Didn’t make the list of his talent.
He had 123 tackles and 5 sacks his junior year at LB.

Then we rotated more at LB his senior.
You saw what South Carolina did without him on the field.

What are you talking about??

That might move him up to low round 1, high round 2. If he interviews well, I think he’s a lock in that range. Hyatt needs to show out at the combine and hopefully be high 4.2-low 4.3

Dude has a great story. Kept his nose clean at UT and balled out.

One of 32 fanbases is gonna fall in love with the kid.

Agreed. Although I think some are saying things like that because BY was the #1 edge coming out of JUCO.

I'm happy for Young. I'm surprised he ran so fast but he has what it takes and his story is a very good one. I'm with Wayward though, there were times he disappeared during the year and seemed to not be able to finish to the QB or blow up end around/wide runs in South Carolina. I noticed because I expected him to be a terror the entire season going into the year. I found myself asking if he was hurt. Then in the Clemson game he seemed back at full strength.

You make it easy to make it personal when you come and piss negativity on a postive statement based post.
Plenty of folks saw how good BY was on the field. Only those driven to constantly criticize missed his talent and skill every game.

Straightline speed doesn't always translate on the field. It's a good measurement to get a feeler but I wouldn't put my hopes in dreams with a 40 time. Or you'll end up like Al Davis in the speed era...speeding to disaster more than likely.

Nolan Smith ran a 4.39. 10 years ago a skill position player running sub 4.4 was mind blowing, now we have 235-250 pound dudes consistently running 4.4-4.5. Remarkable.

I think they changed something with the track at Indy the last couple of years which has contributed to these times. Lots of players are running these ridiculous 40s the last 3-4 years. If this was natural evolution of players getting faster, we would have seen a gradual increase in these times rather than a cascade.

I think now more than ever its the tape that matters.

When you post to a positive thread about a VFL showing out at the NFL combine with three negative posts about him, the defensive coordinator and the secondary, you have to expect blowback. I am sure there will be more personal attacks to come.
