'19 CA ATH/WR Horace "Bru" McCoy (Tennessee commit)

Also don't forget about Holiday, Calloway, Hyatt, White and Merril who all have elite speed. That and the balanced run game Huep brings. No one will slow down this offense haha
Yes sir naw I didn't forget them I was mainly just speaking on our basic 11 personel.Mainly it's gonna be Tillman,Bru and one of White/Merrill in the Y.Those other guys are gonna feast but I consider the 3 I mentioned your starters. That could change fluctuate but jmo.

Hyatt is for sure the starter… camp reports say he has been on a different level than all other wrs minus ced…

If Velus Jones can do 60/800/7, I have no problem believing Bru can beat him by a marginal amount in Hooker's second season as starter.

I doubt it only because Velus was a slot guy and motion sweep tosses counted as passes to him. Only way Bru puts up numbers that big is if Tillman is drawing so much attention that Bru has the best outside receiver stats. I also think that our increased depth in the slot and progression of TE's and RBs getting involved in the passing game decreases the amount of available stats. This is a good thing, though.

Bru’s a clear upgrade from Javonta Payton.

I mean from an athletic & talent standpoint yeah..Ive seen plenty "look like Tarzan plays like Jane" but what u can do to help the team is all that really matters.Up until this stage Bru ain't done squat could that change I suspect it will.I just know Payton was a big part of our offensive success so until someone steps up that's a loss for sure.

If I'm Bru I'm out to make a statement but he's also been outta football 2 years and will take some time.So upgrade is to be seen but def has a much higher ceiling than Payton just gotta reach it.

I'm not ready to say that yet. He may be bullying our mediocre DBs but I need to see it against opponents. Payton was an automatic TD in the first quarter of every game and was blazing fast. He was a major reason that opponents couldn't bracket Tillman because they were afraid of getting burned by Javonta. He might not have caught a lot of balls but they were big plays when he did. I do agree that Bru seems to have a higher ceiling.

Been ready. Payton was limited doses…something was lacking. Nothing to hate on but Bru has unique potential in this offense.

I think Bru will be fine. . . I mean, it was a new system for every player last year. Also, the stars of our offense last year were mostly afterthoughts at other places or even here. Even when they did play, they gave no reason for anyone to expect the output they delivered. That was mostly due to the staff and system they played in. Maybe it's too soon to trust the staff to get the max out of each player, but they have only given us reasons to believe they can and not a single reason to think they won't.

Last year was set to be a break-out year for Bru, all the signs were there. The only thing that will limit him here, this year, is himself. It may take a game or two for him to get rolling, but I think he goes for 30-40+ catches and about 650-800+ yds.

Recruits and transfers are gonna start noticing, in a big way, that they will legitimately have every opportunity to show how good they really are. The only thing that limits players at Tennessee, under this staff, is the actual talent and drive of the player.

I am looking forward to seeing how many guys our staff have bracketed at each of the positions. I SUSPECT we will remain committed to the tempo game, but when that is interrupted, do we systematically run in a fresher guy to try and stress the defense until the next interruption is the question for me.

I am excited at the potentials this room brings and trust the QB room to have grown as well. So if our limited RB room can stay healthy, and the OL functions better in protection as a unit due to the same experience in the system creating continuity, maybe we can see even more catches from guys that get separation in their routes. We can improve significantly with a bunch of experienced dedicated gamers while trying to have a higher percentage of our squad being game changers. A few more effective plays extending drives due to a few less misreads, whiffs and drops can make Coach look even more like a guru and put less stress on a tiring defense. We shall all see if we have sufficiently progressed or not soon. I am hopeful, but not confident until I see it in significant games.

he def has the makeup to be a factor the whole game as a WR and not just once a game. That’s no knock on Payton bc he made huge plays. He had like 19 catches and almost half were TDs.

But Bru is gonna play a factor all 4 qtrs if healthy. He is really physical and DBs don’t want any of that guy and Tillman in the run game. Real underrated aspect here. For example You can run some perimeter stuff to White and let McCoy, Tillman and Fant block it. That has homerun written all over it.

Payton was sort of a boom or bust player. You either saw him making a long TD catch or you didn't see him at all. He could've developed into more of a complete receiver but only had one year...and Heupel made the most of what he could get from him.

When you look at Bru, you see a guy that can be a very similar player to Tillman. They're about the same size and are physical players. I can see Bru being a guy that's hard to jam and has plenty of speed to get open deep. If he's got the same ability as Tillman to make contested catches, then this offense just got more dangerous than last year. He could give the offense a more consistent threat than Payton.

Very well said. It’s one reason I think analysts are crazy for not anticipating what this staff can do with an extra year of development with most of these guys.

Mostly agreed except for something lacking with Javonta. He was very good at Miss. State and was an all around WR. He burned defenses early in games for big plays while at UT and was a huge part of our 1st quarter success. He turned some routine short to intermediate receptions into TDs.....Velus was possibly our only other threat to do that but needed to be mismatched in the slot to make it happen. No doubt in my mind that defenses keying on Payton opened up lots of opportunities for Velus and especially Tillman. I would have liked to see more receptions from Payton but he absolutely made the most of the limited targets he got and showed an NFL level skillet.

Bru seems to be a more complete receiver on paper and will probably catch more balls but I have my doubts that he will have the game speed and ability to turn a small crease into a house call like Javonta. It's all speculation, though. I hope Bru puts up huge numbers. But it's also possible he disappoints or doesn't make plays when targeted.

My take is he could be gameplanned out by the defense and was. I differ with your assessment of his career at Mississipi State. He beasted against LSU and then disappeared. There's a lot of potential production playing the opposite side of Tillman and I feel there was a lot left on the table. I expect big numbers...including RECEPTIONS from McCoy. I don't think it was a lack of targets that hindered Payton.

Was just thinking that Bru is going to be a beast blocking in the run game, in screens, on pick plays for slot guys and TEs and on passes to the flat. We have 2 outside receivers with NFL bodies. Lots of potential for them to tear up the passing game and they are bigger than DBs and around the size of most LBs that will drop in coverage.

I can see your point and do think that Payton struggled some with getting jammed and disappeared usually after a coupleof 1st quarter catches. I still think the big play threat he posed opened up the offense for others. Hope Bru is a better all around player.

Wasn't Javonte injured for over half the year? That's why he had the lowest numbers between the 3 main receivers.

I feel if Javonte had stayed healthy, he would have had the 2nd best stats on the team. He had good hands and could take the top off a defense.
