'19 CA LB Henry To'oto'o (Tennessee Signee)

Crouch may never be the same. We have no way of knowing what he is.
JJ Peterson came in fat and out of shape. Early reports on him are not good.

To’ displays elite timing and vision, coupled with tremendous closing speed. When he gets to the ball carrier he explodes through them.

And he’s doing it vs the best HS competition in the country.

He would absolutely be in the mix day one.

plenty of time here.

either we get back in there, or we don't.

JJ has the advantage of being on the system for a year. crouch is coming off a injury but being an ee can’t hurt his chances. But imo to’oto’o is more college ready coming straight out of high school. He may not make or break our rebuild but it would certainly help if we didn’t have to settle on second best. Only other thing I’ll say is hopefully he is a vol and we can have this argument in August.

GO VOLS

JJP issue was circumstance.. He didn't arrive until camp was over.. HT plan is constructed bearing something wild doesn't happen and also.. De La Salle does in fact play a very tough schedule but let's not discount 7A ball in GA and the level of dominance Colquitt county has been able to display over the past few seasons.. tbh with their flexibility to both play inside and potentially out, they're probably more similar than we actually believe

the following statement is not a referendum on the class as a whole or on our staff.............

but we're going to have to win more of these kinds of battles against teams like Bama if we're ever going to get back to where we want to be on the field with teams like Bama.

the not surprising part of this particular recruitment is that if i was an elite LB that could pick where i want to go, one of the things i'd be looking at is the DL i'd be playing behind. and even though we probably have a quicker path to PT, i'm not sure it's the "best" situation when you're comparing DL's

anyway....i'm not overly surprised. but i was pretty optimistic with the departure of Tosh that would be the tipping point for us.

hope we have a trick or two for the in home.

Ignore the fact that I said I did want the kid.

But he's gonna play ahead of Bituli, DK, Ignont, JJP, and Crouch? If there's one place we have a ton of talent...
Lol...that "ton" of talent couldn't do much to slow rushing attacks last year. Can't run the race without the horses.

in this era of football being versatile at LB has to be prioritized due to the constant personnel shuffles from play to play.. it certainly is a bonus to have solid trench play in front but without the versatility to stay on the field for all 3 downs it won't matter whose in front of you if you're only playing on 1st & 2nd down.. lateral quickness and an ability to play in coverage would certainly speed up the process towards earning pt especially early in the season with more responsibilities being earned as the season progresses

no disagreement. it's still a consideration to make as to how good the guys in front of you are. that's all.

THIS. Bituli seems like a good kid and he had a heck of a game against Ga Tech last year, but if players like him are our definition of "ton of talent" then we're never going to break through in the SEC. Watching our LBs try to make tackles in the open field is a painful experience. All of these guys have shown flashes and had moments where they look like SEC players, but no one on that list is a proven reliable, every down, SEC LB. Kirkland was pre-injuries, but none of those guys are playing at that level right now. We need all the talent we can get. Talent + depth + competition is the formula to getting to that level.

hoping to see darrell taylor continue to progress this season on the edge.. and a solid DL rotation becoming established by mid season.. really looking forward to 19
i think our LB's could be a real strength.....and the front 7 as a whole has a lot of potential. i don't think they're going to dominate or be considered with the Bama's or whatever of the league just yet....but i think we'll have a few guys, like Taylor, that you'll have to account for.

like i said, i think we still have question marks on defense, esp at DL, but i feel like they'll get there quicker.

my #1 concern for this team is still the OL. we're going to be counting on Freshmen to start, or at least contribute fairly significatnly, and i doubt we'll get Smith back.

anyway...it's still a line of scrimmage game, and i think we're on the path back to competing there, but not quite where we need to be yet. still a year or so away imo.

but i'm encouraged by the schedule lightening up a tad this season and can see 8 wins being very possible.
