They use a 3 year scale if I remember correctly and it has to average out to 25 per class. You can gain numbers by players having to quit playing due to medical reasons just as Tennessee will gain 2 extra scholarships due to players medically retiring. There are very few loopholes. Bama's problem is they already had 85 players on scholarship and they are only losing 15 senior scholarship players. They would have to lose 10 more scholarship players through other means such as early draft entry to sign over 25 to keep from going over the 85 limit. On the other hand, if there is a way to make it happen you can bet Saban will make it happen. Different rules apply for Saban.I still don't get how that works if there is a rule to only get 25.
