‘23 CA QB Jaden Rashada

Actually what is sad is promising something you can’t deliver on. And I agree that is a absurd amount of money to give a player straight out of high school without any stipulations if that is true. It is even more stupid to promise it and not deliver. Texas A@M kinda learned the hard way last year. There is nothing wrong with players making money on their name image and likeness but the teams that put in their evaluations and make smart and straight forward deals come out much better in the long run. Not doing your homework and trying to just wildly throw money around without any organization isn’t wise. GBO!!!!
I don't think anybody is giving a 4* QB recruit $13M to sign with a school. Someone has just thrown that number out there without any proof.

I don’t think it was all supposed to be upfront. Probably wasn’t that much.

The reported number at Miami was $9million over 4 years for Rashada, then UF offered $13million over 4 years to flip him. I know we have a continent on VN that says pay this kid and that kid what they want, but this is why you don't get into bidding wars. It's also why you don't overvalue any individual player. This is why you let mercenaries go elsewhere. NIL is part of the game now, but it's not THE game. It can and will destroy some programs if they let it. I've been very impressed how our collective and sports programs have handled it so far.

I hate that it’s not enough, and love for the school and passion are being taken out of the game. All the money schools are bringing in made it impossible for it to continue the way it was. Now a few players really are going to be paid professional athletes. Money ruins everything.
D1 football players have been getting paid before NIL. It’s just legal now.

Yeah, remember when our fans were going crazy because of FL’s recruiting? Then did the same thing with transfers. Most of which knew where they were going or were looking for the highest bid. I like the way we are handling building a roster even if it’s not exciting or grabbing headlines.

No one said they were not. It’s just insane amounts now and public and the only thing for some recruits. Will it continue to get worse, or will it level off eventually?

Well we supposedly paid nico an absurd amount of money….. the key is that we are actually following through on the deal.

Did we get into a bidding war for Nico? Did Nico ever entertain any other schools after committing to us? There is a very distinct difference between Nico and a lot of these other kids. NIL or not, he fits what the coaches are building from a character and cultural standpoint.

That’s fine and I love nico…. The main issue is Florida didn’t pay him…. How do you think any player would feel in Ramada’s situation…. Do you think it would be sunshines and daisies with Nico if we told him that he was getting 1.3 mill and he didn’t get paid?

Yes bc the advent of NIL is the first time any players have been paid to attend school. Every kid went to the school they grew up loving and no one was paid under the table or given family perks (jobs, houses, etc) to attend a specific school.

So odd to have a problem with players now maximizing their earning potential.

Is this not America?

And maybe the “vast majority” of football players have their scholarships 100% and cover everything, but what about other sports? Baseball players can now make NIL. Did you know a D1 baseball team gets only 11.7 full scholarships spread across 30 players on a roster? But for the love of the game yada yada yada
I never stated about this being first time players were paid (I am aware of how that worked) The athlete can earn their maximum potential if/when they go pro, not as an amateur. This NIL is about a school making money because a student athlete excels at their sport and wanting paid because of it. That athlete, whom received a free college education, will most likely go pro, at which team they will maximize their earning potential. I don't see the school making NIL money from the 3rd string lineman so the odds of a pro career are slim, but they have their free education just like the others.
As for the other sports, I am fully aware of scholarship limitations because my daughter was blessed with an opportunity to play in college. We visited and met with potential coaches, so I understand the perks she would have received and it was only soccer. We can agree to disagree and that's fine, but I see a paid education plus all the perks I stated earlier as enough. And yes, I love the pageantry, passion, excitement of college sports compared to pro. Maybe I'm too old but that is what separates the two.
Just my opinion.

In 4 years - once these kids getting big money either do or don’t pan out - the market will change. I’d have to think it adjusts down bc there are bound to be more busts than successes.

I respectfully disagree.
These aren't professional athletes, so they shouldn't be treated as such. A vast majority of students athletes are given scholarships that pay for tuition, books, meals, and any additional fees the college adds to their bill. Lots of these schloarships are paid at 100%, so no debt after college. Not to mention weight and strength training, nutrition plan, team Physician's, better amenities, and "perks" from local establishments. None of this is given to those non-student athletes. What money, if any, the institution might make from a students 'name, image, & likeness', likely meant the athlete was destined for the pros. They will then be rewarded monetarily at that time for their ability. Not sure how much money the school made on "NIL" of a 3rd - 4th string player, but that player still enjoyed the perks of the "star" athlete. No more going to a school where my grandparents, parents, or favorite player went because of love for that school, it is now about making a business decision for some of these 17-18 year old kids. Running onto a field, court, or track should mean something because you grew up following/loving that team, not because they bought you to do it. With this, the passion leaves because the player gets paid, win or lose. I understand we are now in a different era, but I completely disagree with paying HS/college kids to play a game. $100k education for free should be enough.
JMO
Passion will never go away, regardless if a poor kid who has tremendous talent and gives everything they have to a University gets paid a few 100k.

I've never had anything negative to say about Rashada's stance against UF. Reports say that they signed contracts. UF's collective is therefore in breech of said contract. That isn't on the kid. So no, I wouldn't expect Nico to enroll if our collective didn't do what they were contracted to do, and it wouldn't change my current opinion of him.

Really nice piece on The Athletic today regarding Rashada and the UF NIL organization. Complete with timeline. Here's the closing few paragaphs.

The recent behind-the-scenes interplay — from the December signing day hangup to this week’s enrollment drama — has created bruised feelings at a minimum and abject animosity. There’s a comparison to Major League Baseball arbitration, in which a player touts his value even as his own team argues to diminish it. Of course, those hearings typically involve grown men, calloused by previous professional contract negotiations. Rashada is 19 years old, mere weeks removed from his high school graduation, although with college football recruiting being shaped by various tiers of NIL pitches, it has undeniably surged into a professional realm.
SEC recruiting in the NIL era is saltier than ever: First, Nick Saban says Texas A&M “bought every player” in its top-ranked class, and now the Gators are saddled with the damning perception that they defaulted on what was promised to their top-rated signee.
It’s a dilemma. Not from the perspective of the state NIL law or an NCAA guideline, neither of which is being enforced, but a dilemma that impacts optics. Is this a one-off misstep, or have the Gators completely flubbed their first swing at NIL? Why haven’t we heard of Alabama, Georgia or other SEC schools suffering such public embarrassments?
When Napier took the Florida job, he extolled the alignment from the president to the AD to the head coach. Now Ben Sasse is replacing Kent ***hs as the president, and the Rashada predicament screams that alignment is disjointed.
Already time to realign.

Rumor is he signed an NIL deal with the LifeWalet guy at Miami, then flipped to Florida and signed an NIL there. The Miami guy sent the family a bill for breach of contract, and the Rashadas asked for more money to pay off Miami. Floridas collective balked at the new request, and it caused the rift between the player and the collective.

Sounds like Florida trying to cover up the fact that their NIL is a mess
