‘23 CA QB Nicholaus Iamaleava (Tennessee)

Financial aid agreement, perhaps? We have seen those in the past.

Yes… this is likely what it is… they can turn in financial agreement early. But the actual NLI papers can’t be submitted til signing day. It’s the same concept as those who were EE in past before there was an early signing day.

AP and Hubbs spoke on his weight during the last podcast. They said he's alot bigger then you would believe, but looks skinny because he's 6'6. They also said you would be surprised by how big his legs were.
They're spot on.

He was an ELITE Volleyball player. His legs are going to have good strength and bounce.

It shows when he runs on the football field too.

Low body fat.
More twitchy than most think.

I know that.

Tell the fools that keep talking about his size will make him redshirt.

Crazy talk...

I was able to be in close proximity to him a couple of times this year. He's really long limbed but he's not rail thin by any means. He's already got good structure to his shoulders and will be able to put on all of the muscle he needs. He's already got the lower body to absorb hits. I had the fortune to watch just about every HS game that Peyton played and was present at Kabby's the day that he committed to Tennessee. In comparison, Nico is way past Peyton physically at this stage. Peyton looked like a dude riding a chicken in shorts and had a pencil neck. Peyton did just fine though as a freshman thrown into the SEC. Nico will be more than ready physically if he's called on in 2023.

Look at his Dad, I wouldn't be surprised. Anyone worrying about his weight is just looking for something to worry about. He will be a large male by the time he declares, genetics suggest as such.

Every time I open this thread to read new posts, I’m still in slight disbelief we managed to secure his commitment. Program changing QB. Man, what a freaking huge recruiting win.
Unbelievable we secured this guy. We NEVER land the big time QB's. Then Heup comes in and secures the poly version of Trevor Lawrence.

I think the weight thing has been misconstrued. Don't think anyone has argued that it's a long term problem, just that strength and conditioning is another aspect that would benefit from a red shirt year. Given that 2 of 3 of our scholarship QBs are down with significant injury, clearly it is a risk, and Butch showed us exactly how bad injuries can get without proper S&C. While Nico has been pretty durable I think, it would be best for him to have time to develop. That really shouldn't be controversial.

Thanks for the share.

A few things about the Manning comp:

1) Manning was a drop back passer in a pro style offense at UT. He was not called on to run as a substantive part of the offense. Heupel's offense, on the other hand, works best when the QB runs and running is part of Nico's game. The need for Nico to sustain hits will be greater than the need was for Manning to sustain hits.

2) Manning, as advanced as he was for a freshman, still wasn't going to start as a true freshman, but for some unlikely events. He hoped to redshirt, in fact. It took injuries to Colquitt and Helton and then beating out Stewart in order for Manning to start.

3) We went 8-4 in Manning's freshman year, in large part due to the fact that we were limited at QB. That was a down year at that time. And that's with top of the SEC level of talent on our roster. PM had a great Oline in front of him and future NFL starting RBs behind him, along with a pretty good defense. We're certainly hoping to do better than 8-4 next year.

I'm not saying Nico can't or won't be the starting QB and do well next season. He may. I'm just saying that the Manning comps aren't necessarily indicative that he'll be successful or that being too skinny shouldn't be a concern.
