'17 CA RB Stephen Carr (USC Transfer)

Neither have any of the RB's currently on our roster.
But they're already on our roster. We don't have to worry about them taking a spot away from an actual position of need. Worst case scenario, we'll platoon at RB, but we'll still be just fine. We have bigger needs with few spots left.

It's not a position of need. Why take a player just to take a player? Is it because he's a former 5*? Our needs are on defense. No need to use a spot just to use a spot. Stick it in your back pocket and save it.
You're projecting that our needs are on defense. Everyone keeps stating over and over again that WR and RB are strengths of our team. In reality, we have EXTREMELY little returning production at either one of those positions. All of you are assuming that every one of our unproven young WR's and RB's are going to be beasts. That has not proved to be the case in a long time, and all of these guys are having to learn a completely new offense as well.

I hate that I am responding and bumping this thread.

We have bodies at the RB and WR position. We just took Payton as a transfer. There have been plenty of other RB's in the portal if the coaches wanted a RB. Why would we move a guy that spent all Spring at RB to LB or DB and them have to learn that position in fall camp. Why don't we just bring in someone who has already been focusing on DB or LB at another school and they won't have to start from the ground up teaching.

We don't need to play the shell game with players.

I never said they'll be beasts. No need to put words in my mouth. But they'll be serviceable. What says this guy would come in and be a beast? Absolutely nothing. So why take another unproven RB to join the stable we already have? Especially when there are bigger needs?

Don't confuse people with basic logic. You're gonna get uninvited from the annual bbq.

I'm not the one saying to move some of our RB's to LB. I'm simply saying that I see no absolute studs on our roster at the RB position, so to state that we don't need help at RB is misleading. We need help everywhere.

How is this guy an absolute stud RB?

I'm not saying that he is. I'm also not saying that we should try to get this kid. I'm just saying that anyone that thinks we're great at WR or RB is seriously delusional.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of transfers in general. They bust FAR more often than they become big stars.

Jabari Small, Tiyon Evans, and Dee Beckwith should be a more than sufficient trio to handle most of our snaps. Whitehead and Hodge can spell them or take the garbage time snaps. We got a good look at all of them in the spring.

The defense is going to be gassed because they are likely going to be playing a lot more snaps than usually due to our fast paced and hopefully quick scoring offense. We need more bodies on the defensive side of the ball to provide snaps and rest. If we don't, we will have to battle long into the 4th quarter to stay ahead of teams.

Not saying he is a take, but I didn't see anything on the field that gave me confidence during the Orange and White game. I feel like all our running backs would currently be considered quality depth guys. No player makers or every down backs at the position.
This and that's saying a lot considering the defensive problems

Don’t forget about Jaylen Wright.

He was a 5* talent. More times than not they get it right. It's just can he find the right fit where someone is gonna be able to take that talent and turn it in to production. Look no further than Alvin Kamara. He was wasted here under Butch along with many others.

And tell me why he would consider going to a place NCAA could possibly destroy, certainly damage at the least?

He has more yards rushing in college than our entire running back room combined. We need defense but we need just about everything else as well. This team was terrible last year.

He’s also ran the ball multiple times more than our RB room has. Every coach will tell you RB is the easiest position to break new guys in. I’m fine with Beckwith, Smalls, Hodge & the JC guy.
