CNN Political Ticker: All politics, all the time Blog Archive - Cafferty: Obama: Race a factor? - Blogs from CNN.com

Race is arguably the biggest issue in this election, and it's one that nobody's talking about.
The differences between Barack Obama and John McCain couldn't be more well-defined. Obama wants to change Washington. McCain is a part of Washington and a part of the Bush legacy. Yet the polls remain close. Doesn't make sense…unless it's race.
Time magazine's Michael Grunwald says race is the elephant in the room. He says Barack Obama needs to tread lightly as he fights back against the McCain-Palin campaign attacks.

Thoughts?

wonder how Obama's choice of Biden fits into that 'change Washington' theme.

Cafferty's clearly a deep thinker:

Uh yeah Jack, you're right that is the one and only difference between Obama (the clear choice) and McCain (a disaster of a choice). It must be race because on the issues, Obama is clearly superior - I mean anyone can see that can't they?

Thanks Jack for suggesting that anyone who doesn't join in supporting BO is a racist. Hooray for unity!

Translation: America if you don't vote Obama you too will be a racist!

the Obama camp wouldn't use race as a weapon here, it's too divisive. That's why we have another thread about his ads in Espanol talking about the Republicans wanting death to all Hispanic people.

how long til an Obama apologist drops by and tells that the GOP has always been the party of racists?

Race is a factor IMO. I feel many white Americans feel guilted into voting for Barack because of his skin color.

Is it fair to argue that if Obama is white and his name is Barry that he would be an after thought?

There is no evidence that race will be a factor. Sure, it might be, but there is zero evidence to back up this assertion.

What do you thin of prominent African Americans saying they'll vote for Obama based purely upon his race, even though they are staunch Repubs?

you expecting a poll or something that says people are or aren't voting for Obama based upon his skin color?

Unfortunately I think race and gender both are playing parts in this campaign. There are going to be those who will not vote for Obama because of his skin color, and there are also going to be women who will vote for McCain/Palin just because Palin is a female. We should have just had 4 dumb white guys and not had to deal with this.:birgits_giggle:

Who are you talking about?

Yes, that's what pollsters do. They've been able to find out this stuff in the past. The Bradley Effect is indeed real. Pollsters proved it.
