Cake vs Pie Debate

Long ago, my mother used to make a spice cake from a mix (only cake we ever had, lol), probably a variant on this one: Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Delights Spice Cake Mix - BettyCrocker.com It’s a really amazing flavor, like a carrot cake on steroids.

I think she made it with a chocolate frosting (from a can, of course), and maybe with some broken pecans on the top.

I need to make this and take it out to her.

A good pie is unbeatable, but you can mess one up in a hurry by adding a bunch of crap on top of it. Strawberry, Apple,Snickers Apple, Oatmel, Pecan, Lemon, all exceptional. Then you smack anyone who gets out a can of whipped cream for trying to ruin the pie.

The best cake I’ve ever had is the butter cake from Ocean Prime. If there’s a location near you, you have to go even if it’s just for dessert. Seriously, the perfect cake.

I love pi all kinds of pie but my pie is the best. (Mom’s chocolate pie). When I was little I would supposedly stick my finger in it and say my pie so my brother wouldn’t eat it

I'm a crossover...
Pecan Pie (or sometimes just the filling)
Chess Pie
Buttermilk Pie
French Silk Pie

Peach/Apple/Berry Cobblers (Especially from the Blueberry bushes fresh picked). They have to be proper cobblers with that crunchy gooey crust that cooks up into it. Those pie crust type cobblers are copouts by people that don't know cobblers.

Strawberry Cake
Caramel Cake
A proper Carrot Cake
Pepperidge Farm frozen cakes
The white sheet cake with jello poured over and whip cream icing refridgerated so the jello can jello.

I have nothing against choco cakes, but left to my own vices first choice would always be strawberry or caramel (my moms caramel icing cake recipe she'd fix for my dad)

I'm 57. I've been around. This list is irrefutable.

One of my chilhood memory cakes my mom would sometmes make. Prob not often cause it was time consuming. Only remember it a few times and it was the bomb.

It was some kind of apple stack cake I think made with apple butter maybe. THe layers would be round cake pan size, but thin like hotcakes. Layered up about 7 high or so, with the apple butter filling between each layer. all that would soak in too. It was killer.

And the yellow or white cake with her homemade caramel icing she'd make for dad was lights out. She has passed, so we don't get any of her cakes or cobblers anymore. Her blueberry cobblers in the summer when the blueberry bushes were in full swing were also legit. Hers had that cakey type breading that would get gooey crunchy on top. Alot of cobblers have that pie crust type base that just doesn't cut it for me.

Cake. For me consistency is a big deal. Pies have too many different textures going on.

Fruits and veggies dont belong as a primary ingredient in a dessert. It's not really a dessert if you can eat the main ingredient as part of your main meal.

Favorite cake is a 4 or 5 chocolate, chocolate cake. So rich and moist.

For some reason this icing hit different.

Probably my favorite store bought dessert growing up.

Cake overall, but if someone walks in with a buttermilk or pecan pie, I'm taking pie.

Chocolate chip pie. Simple to make and is amazing every time. Flour, white sugar, brown sugar, chocolate chips, butter, vanilla extract. Put in a pre made pie shell and bake.

Not sure what’s in this, it’s called Potato Candy and if they served it during lunch at Bearden Jr. High it was like my crack. Get a sugar buzz just thinking about it.

Ok, I have never once in my life heard of this, but imma give it a try. Per this recipe I found, it isn’t even cooked, other than boiling the potato (singular, just one russet tater.) No idea how good this recipe is; I just found it.

Apple stack cake. My mamaw used to make it. It did have apple butter in between.

side note, apple butter doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Soooo good
