Cal to Arkansas

Jay Wright left coaching because he said he hated what the transfer portal and NIL have done to the sport and the recruiting calendar. He isn’t leaving his comfy commentary gig to take on a pressure cooker job at UK where portal and NIL are going to be mandatory for success.
Brad Stevens is the other shoot for the stars name I’m hearing

I will say that there are very few names that actually scare me at Kentucky, and most of the names on that list are highly unlikely.

Dan Hurley and Jay Wright aren’t taking that job like Kentucky fans think.

The only “realistic” name that scares me is Nate Oats. If it ends up being Scott Drew, that’s fine by me.
Why in the world would Oats leave Bama when he just got them to the F4? I just don’t see it. He just signed an extension anyways. Who is Scott Drew? Curio.

Cal is supposedly taking a slight pay cut to make this move.

Allegedly really just wanted to leave UK for the right situation because the relationship with the administration and fanbase had just become untenable.
The boys on Rupps Rafters quite literally think they can have a coach they want. They also think coach’s can’t win championships without them, which is funny since Oates and Bama has been closer than they have been in a decade

I don’t think it’s a lock Oats takes the job. Bama will give him anything to stay and they can win a bidding war thanks to 15 years of Saban printing money. And Bama could be the #1 team in the country next year if he stays.

I don’t either, but they think he needs them and that NOBODY would turn down Kentucky. Not sure why they haven’t gotten the memo about the landscape of college sports not being what it once was. History, tradition and all that don’t mean a lot to coaches and recruits anymore. You can win at a lot of places now due to the shift that has taken place. Bama football, fresh off the playoff, didn’t get the coach they wanted most. It’s different. They think any coach would crawl there.

Exact same way Tubby left.

Cal is leaving because the whole situation there is toxic. They've never been able to hire a championship coach before. I doubt it starts now.

Just look at how the Lady Vols search went. The days of “tradition” propping up a program are done. People don’t automatically drop what they’re doing when a blue blood comes calling like they used to. Never again will Kentucky average an SEC title every other year. Too many other schools taking basketball seriously now.

Yep, and why put up with the garbage fans in Lexington? Less pressure at Bama.

Probably the best for everyone. Pretty surprised it was Arky. It's not Louisville like Pitino, but it definitely feels weird knowing he will be in the conference on the other bench.

Wonder if the K Fund Trustees could lure Billy Donovan back to Lexington, leaving Chicago at the end of their NBA season, those NBA coaching contracts don't collapse like the college coaching contracts do,

Cal's one and done recipe would stabilize the Arkansas program after they clean house, lot of Memphis kids have done rather well at Arkansas over the years and when you line Walton, Tyson and Stephens up, you can assemble a rather insane amount of money in a rather unique place in Arkansas,
