Cal to Arkansas

Let's stop with the "Danny" myth. Check out Bobby Hurley's record at Arizona State (under 50 percent conference win rate in a weak Pac12). It's astounding he still has a job. Same with Johnny Dawkins--fired at Stanford (under 500 in a Pac12) and exactly .500 conference win rate at Central Florida. In the last four years his team has finished 6th twice, 7th and 9th in the conference this year. His women's coach at UCF has just finished her 2nd year at Georgia; she was next to last in the SEC. Oats has been good, but this notion that "Danny" is some sort of hiring savant is nonsense, apparently springing from Heupel's one good year (in 3). I like Heupel, hope he succeeds, but one good season is just that. Butch J. had a couple of good seasons. Apparently a lot of people mistakenly assumed that White hired Vitello--he didn't.. Nor did he hire any of UT's best coaches--Kredich, Barnes, Woodruff, Weekly. I've got nothing against White, but all this Danny fluff is absurd.
There is Danny white and there are opinions like this from turbovol 😂

Danny White isn’t going to hit 100% on hires, but his history is pretty darn good. You can’t use Bobby Hurley against him at ASU because Danny White hired him at Buffalo, a totally different situation. You can’t say that White would have hired him if he was the AD at ASU.

White hit on Hurley, Oats, Leipold, Scott Frost, and Heupel at his universities. Very good record.

And Butch had good seasons like Heupel? Haha, that’s hilarious. Heupel’s second best season in three years is equal Butch’s best season in five years.

White has also hired coaches for women’s soccer and cross country at UT, and they appear to be solid so far.

How many did say or now would say that Ky Cal is a gamble?
Fair. I wouldn’t say he’s a gamble unless you’re thinking NC. You know you’ll make the tournament. You know he will recruit well. Past that, he’s a gamble for sure so I guess it depends on where the school/fans will be satisfied.

The point I was making is this hire didn't seem like much effort went into it, comparing it to the hiring of Dooley. If reason for firing the current coach is because she was not meeting the expectations of a winning program, then this is the best ya got ? If this was the best hire possible, they should left things in place until the right person with a better resume came along.
Fair enough. It was a fast process, I do agree with that. There’s literally a handful of sure winners though and we don’t know who White contacted or not and what back channels he worked for how long. He has enough track record in his career to get the benefit of doubt though. Caldwell reminds me of Pearl, resume-wise. He was a great hire here and I’m trusting she will be in time as well.

I don't know why you keep harping on what his hires have done once they've moved on to another job. There are many reasons why a coach may not be successful at a school. Circumstances vary for every program. Perhaps they didn't have the necessary institutional support. Maybe the Athletic Director who hired them moved on, and they were replaced with an incompetent AD. It's also possible that they left for a job that's considered a 'step up' in class, but in reality, it wasn't a very good job to begin with. Or maybe like Scott Frost, they couldn’t keep their **** in their pants long enough to actually coach their team. The point is, an athletic director is judged solely on the hires they make for that institution. And for that reason, Danny White is considered a top-notch AD.

Seems the ole Rupp rafters server is down again.
Probably a big cat fight over which NBA coach will leave a comfy gig and crawl to Lexington. 😂

It is weird that it has been 24 hours since this broke and there is no official word from either Arkansas or Kentucky. And Cal is out this afternoon caught on video walking his dog on the sidewalk in Lexington like it’s just any other normal day. Lol.

IMHO you don't fire a coach with a winning record and having gone to the tourney for the last 3 years just so you can replace her with a Div II coach who has only one year coaching in Div I. Yes, she had a winning record.....in mighty Div II Glenville St. Yes, she took powerhouse Marshall to the tourney this year and lost to Va Tech in the first round 92-49. Nothing about her resume screams " must hire now". I hope she balls out and takes the program back to the place Pat had it , but with that thin resume it seems we could have done better or just left things in place.
If five minutes into Caldwell's first game you notice players hustling and giving something close to 100% then she is already an upgrade. Motivating players is the first step and Harper never got there. I'm sure some big names were contacted.

I hope to see the improvement you speak of, hustle wise. But what I see that is lacking on our lady Vols is the lack of athleticism and it's not just on the Vols team. If you remember some of the better teams under Pat, she had ball handlers that could push the ball, pass, jump, shoot ---think Iowa's Clark . I see big ladies today that struggle to get up and down the court, make feeble attempts to rebound, they pretty much just stand around under the basket and hope the ball comes to them. Those things you can't teach. But I hope they get back in the hunt for a NC

You never hold off firing a coach because you are worried that you won't be able to find a suitable replacement. You hold people accountable for the results they produce. After you have made the decision to fire the coach, then you do the best job you can of finding the coach you believe is the best person for the job. There are a litany of hires throughout the history of college sports that were lauded as grand slams, that turned out to be complete duds. There have also been "wtf" hires that turned out to produce great results.
If I'm an AD I would have feelers out for possible hires year round in case you need to make a move. And I disagree that you fire and then start the hiring process and hope to find a better replacement. The Lady Vols programs was not a dumpster fire that demanded a change ASAP. The constant rebuilding of a program every 5 years with a new coach is worse than letting things play out for another year or so to find the right fit at coach.

There is Danny White and there are wrong opinions such as this…
Danny White gave Harper a contract extension just last year and then fires her this year. So she was good enough for a contract extension last year, but beyond keeping this year ?

in my book that was not a dog. What grown man pushes a dog in a stroller.

Well there is a lot to consider in that respect but without reading the contract extension and knowing what we lost as oppose to her old contract. Honestly I don’t care to look it up, and I really don’t want to debate with ppl over how good of an AD Danny White is, especially compared to what we had.

No sir this a fruitless debate
