I would give significantly more credence to some of the posters who have suddenly shown up to be critical of this hire if they exhibited more knowledge of women's basketball in the SEC. For instance, not knowing that all the teams do, in fact, play in the SEC tournament, a fact that seems to have eluded a number of our drive-by posters, seems a major lack of knowledge.Your posts suggest otherwise.
We need a thread with intel on assistant coaches. Nothing is more important over the next few days and let’s hope she doesn’t do what Harper did when she was hired. She needs immediate help recruiting and in the portal.
Agree, I thought the only assistant Kellie should have brought with her was Jackie Stiles. Everyone knows Jackie and she’s been a camp and skills coach for 25 years. I was surprised they didn’t bring her when they came to Knoxville.
The other young woman seemed nice but she was just a nobody in the bball world. Goldwire ended up being a terrible hire that looked good on paper at first. She was a lot of drama.
Looked it up and Sullivan has been head coach at Florida Atlantic the last 3 seasons. 28-62 31% over all and 12-44 21% in C-USA. Sort of shockingly bad, can’t believe she coached at UT.
So strange to have a hire like this be such an unknown. Being D2 and mid she wasn't recruiting much in the championship gyms in the summer. She will need to hire assistants with connections to the top prospects and summer club teams. This style has a potential to be exciting but the announcer in this game claimed her ideal time for a player to be on the court was one minute 30 seconds at a time. If she treats the SEC like a hockey game she won't get top recruits. No 4-star or 5-star will agree to play 90 seconds at a time and 20 minutes a game. And VA Tech showed the difference between pressing mid major vs power 5. But I assume she will adjust even though she's played the same way everywhere she's been.I watched a couple of Marshall games this year (Thank you ESPN+)
On defense, they generally full court pressed after a made basket. Players are only in for 4-5 minutes before 5 new players are substituted in.
On offense, the ball is constantly pushed upcourt. They would often pull up for a 3 on the break. They took a lot of 3's.
It made for entertaining and winning basketball at the Sun Belt level.
Imo, there would have to be an almost complete change, in the current LV roster, for that style of play to be effective in the SEC.
I copied a post I made, on this forum, after the Sun Belt championship game. It will give you some idea of how the game was played.
See below:
The Marshall- James Madison Sun Belt championship game was exciting. Here are just some of the incredible stats from that game.
Marshall took 99 field goal attempts of which 46 were 3's (James Madison only 53 fga's). Yet the game went into overtime. Marshall had 33 offensive rebounds. James Madison committed 39 turnovers !!
Have to start somewhere. Great post. Im smiling for her.My insight here is less about Coach Kim as a potential and more about the opportunity itself being filled with potential from all points...It is the very definition of win-win
If Coach Kim is a success-win
If she is not, we have opened the door beyond the TN coaching tree-win
If she keeps Coach Sam and they have a huge get in the 25 class-win
...No one knows who the next Kim, Geno, Pat, Kim will be,,,but there will be someone who will follow these and accomplish feats we thought would never be topped.
But none of these feats were topped until a chance was given for it to happen
