Calexit!

No, the attack was based upon a bunch of people asserting good riddance attitude about Cali leaving. It is a stupid shortsighted position to take. I have lived in California and, honestly, bar none it is, outside of its politics, a fantastic place to live. It has great beaches, fantastic history, gorgeous parks, mountains for skiing, desert areas for motorcycle riding and just the best climate of anywhere on earth. And it's economy greatly benefits the US

My claim is not baseless. The south takes in far more than it gives when it comes to federal tax dollars meaning that it is a net drain on the country. The same cannot be said for California. Your assertion that they are "shipping out retirees" is at best unsupported and at worst an outright lie.
My sister lived up near Sacramento and said all these things. She also said she would never go back because of the extreme liberal-ness of their politics and overall population.

But, I am all for Cali jumping off of the US. Whatever the short term problems will be, the long term gains would overtake them. I seriously doubt the South would flail due to no more Cali money. If anything, Cali would collapse under its own weight and be bought out by China.

Yes, because that would obviously not be a problem for the rest of the US.

Why's everyone so hung up on the straws? There are alternatives and plastic pollution is a problem.
From Asia and Africa, yes. America, no. The alternatives suck. It’s eye rolling more than anything.

You realize hypodermic needles are handed out to drug users and discarded all over, but plastic straws are banned. Their priorities are retarded.

When Obama was president, Norcal apparently wanted to secede from the rest of Cal because it's conservative there. If Cal secedes, you could be abandoning part of your base.

This is not even close to being a true statement lol . “ NorCal “ just happens to hold the cradles of Uber progressive liberalism ... Sacramento & San Francisco with Berkeley being right there to for good measures . The elitist snobs are all in NorCal . They wanted to split because NorCal and SoCal can’t stand each other .

Yeah, actually it is true. The northernmost counties wanted to pull away because they felt Sacramento and San Fran and other liberal cities weren't representing them. It wasn't specific to Obama as they've had that idea for years. Nor to California since a bunch of counties in Oregon wanted to pull away as well for the same reasons.

Look up State of Jefferson.

Agreed.

Now, is it worth sending someone to jail over?

“No one will go to jail for using a plastic straw or providing a straw to a customer.

“There is no intention to strictly enforce the ordinance. The City’s plan is to work cooperatively with restaurants to ensure straws are available by request.”

She added that the city wants to join the likes of Seattle and Malibu to reduce the use of plastic straws and the city council will continue their discussion in September.

She also insisted that language citing the six month sentences “will most likely be deleted as there’s no intention to penalize businesses with jail time or fines.

“This is the general enforcement language that applies throughout the municipal code,” she said.

The obvious problem will be down the road when it collapses under a huge debt and overtaxation , then it will be a problem for America and something will have to be done . The state’s population is becoming more and more divided. You have the wealthy ( by Cali standards ) the very poor ( by the rest of the country’s standards ) and an every decreasing middle class that is being taxed out of existence. They ( the middle class ) is either leaving or becoming poor . The wealthy hires people to find ways to avoid paying taxes , the poor doesn’t pay taxes .... it’s just a matter of time . So yes when you see these things happening and your priorities are banning straws , trying to give animals the right to sue a humans in court, deciding kids in public can only drink water or milk .... it’s like watching reruns of the three stooges and saying , one of times mo is going to stop hitting curly over the head with a hammer so they can fix that busted water pipe , but you just know it’s going to happen anyway.

I don’t have to look it up I lived and worked there lol

Yeah, all laws start out with the "intention to not really enforce it..."

That's not what it says, but you know that. They plan on enforcing it, first with warnings then with fines - just not jail time. It literally took me 15 seconds of researching your repeated claim to find the quote in the previous post. Cmon GV, a little effort.

Then don't be all silly towards another poster bringing it up.

Especially when it's true.

Dude you may be talking about a few counties in the northern most parts of Cali if that’s the claim meh ok , tons of people live in Oregon and work in Cali . But that whole Cali wanted to split because NorCal holds a conservative stronghold idea ... not even close

So they’re going to send regular people in covertly to see if they’re just given straws they didn’t ask for? Like with underage alcohol purchases? Yeah, seems reasonable. Lol

While we’re at it, anything east of Seattle in Washington needs to break away and form a state with eastern Oregon and northern Idaho.

If only you can hear the tone. Also, how else are they going to police the fines? Lol

He probably has a point that it'll start with warnings and then move to fines.

Then some overzealous politician will want it enforced more strictly to 'set the example" along with said fines. Which the fines will probably go up as well.

Its Cali, they will go full stupid while hitting plaid.

I'm sure they are going to have special straw police.

Lol @Septic trying to get a rise out of someone.

Looks like it worked.

I wasn't, I just find it bizarre that the right is so fixated on the straw ban. I personally don't g.a.s., but can understand the damage that plastics do to the environment on a large scale. Plastic grocery bags are next I'd wager, I understand that too.
