California Lunacy Thread

This isn’t the confidence of a leader
facing adversity.

It’s the face of a “leader” PO’d because she doesn’t have her armed thugs with her on the jetway to shove the reporter out of the way.
He found the absolutely PERFECT place to question her

Sampson noted that California law prohibits insurers from canceling an insurance policy during its term, except for very limited exceptions, such as non-payment of premiums or fraud.

He added, "So the implication that people who have insurance coverage effective on January 7th are being canceled — just to leave that impression with people and to create that fear — is irresponsible, in my view."

Even before this week's wildfires hit, California was in the midst of an insurance crisis, with many residents unable to obtain homeowners insurance due to several carriers limiting their exposure in the state or pulling out completely in recent years because of heavy losses and the inability to adequately raise premiums or assess risk due to California's regulations.

It's the government stupid.

Deflect deflect deflect.

Both can be true.

You can have local government which failed to anticipate this problem and cast blame, AND you can admit the fires were made worse by weather conditions associated with climate change. Its not just one or the other.

I live in Florida and the state in early spring often cuts out underbrush which as grown up in the winter but which dries out in Spring and becomes tinder for lighting-caused fires when the storms start up in May/June. So if I'm in Cali, and know what those dry conditions will do if the winds blow, its perfectly fine in my view to complain this could have been anticipated.

Similarly, I live in Florida and it is apparent to me that the frequency and intensity of hurricanes is increasing, tied to ever-rising increases in warm ocean temps. I think we are right to complain that we ought to be doing more to try to curtail that.

Southern California was a desert long before climate change. They have had a dry 6 months or so but before that their precip was well above normal (which is about 12")

The last couple of years they got 22" and 24". They should have preserved that rain in reservoirs. This is life in the desert

As for "doing something about it" we've done quite a bit. We lead the world in reducing carbon emissions. I think you can't do much better than #1 but if you have a better idea, I'm open to hearing it

This is a fair assessment. The only thing you forgot to mention is just how absolutely horrible and despicable their Governor is. He’s caused that state nothing but pain since he took office. He should have resigned after he finally cleaned up his feces infested cities ONLY because he wanted to welcome the CCP. There is no telling how much his ineptness attributed to this disaster.

Okay . That is an issue the democratic party is particularly concerned about. Did they purposedly retard the ability to combat it's affect? Where were their priorities? It wasn't on fire fighting or fielding an effective fire fighting force. 17 million in cuts and proposals to cut 16 fire stations. Seems like they don't believe in climate change.

Politics aside, there's no one else to blame for empty fire hydrants than gov't. That falls completely on gov't. LA is not even in a drought now. Gov't has got to see to it that the hydrants work. I would think lawsuits could come of this

Looks like the reparations fund is going to end up in Malibu.

So now these libs want to torture and prosecute criminals.
I don’t know how people like Adam Corolla, Mel Gibson, James Woods and the handful of other center right individuals in that area can even live out there with the pervasive liberal leftist policies that continue to result in failure. Maybe this is enough to change some of their neighbors minds about who they vote for going forward.
