California moves to ban sales of new gas-powered cars

"A recent AAA study found that when the mercury dips to 20 degrees and the vehicle’s heater is in use, an average EV’s range drops by 41 percent. That means a model that’s rated to run for 150 miles at a time would only reach about 88 miles before needing to be recharged. Hot weather also affects an EV battery’s performance, but to a lesser degree. When driven in temperatures of 95 degrees or above with the air conditioning running, an EV owner can expect its range to drop by an average of 17 percent."

Yikes

EVs are great if you are only using it for short commutes or with a Tesla trips under 100 miles one way. They are not road trip family roadsters or work vehicles that are on the road all day.

Yep. Now let’s factor in normal usage patterns resulting in quick charges that diminishes capacity and life.

An electric car is a lifestyle choice and the damn government has no damn business mandating that.

Is CA going to ban gas powered boats? How about RVs? Is CA ready to kill campers because ain’t no electric truck pulling a camper 3-400 miles.

If I did the math correctly, CA will need to come up with another 50 GW per day to make up for the 4M gal of gas per day that’ll eventually displaced.
Better start building those power plants now because it typically takes them 20 years to get one permitted and online

Maybe they are figuring most average income Californians will have moved out of state by 2035?

If this actually came to fruition, I would guess you could buy a car online from a neighboring state and have it shipped to you?

IDK as far as trucking goes you see trucks with those skirting on the sides and what looks like fins on the back of the trailers? Those are aerodynamic requirements to enter California. Then you have the California compliant tires trucks have to have so almost every manufacture only makes compliant tires.

The fact Nixon allowed CA an exemption to set its own rules have ****ed this country since the 70s.

No Thanks! I keep with my car getting 430 miles per tank......

I believe you meant to say "install solar panels and wind turbines on every single square inch of available space".

How about those retards fix their WW2 era electric lines that inevitably eff up and cause catastrophic fires before worrying about cars

Dumbasses are already overloading their grid.

It's pretty amazing when you think about it all. The left coast doesn't want pollution from fossil fuels, the whole left coast has pretty much shut out nuclear, they blew dams so the so the fish could roam free, they fined PG&E over powerline related wildfires, and CA wants to add to the electric power load by running transportation on electric power. What could possibly go wrong with that thinking? Somehow it's like they never learned any engineering lore like you can't get something from nothing and there are always losses (sometimes big ones) with energy conversion. Damn good thing that electricity just comes out of plugs in the wall and they don't have to think deeply about any of that.

Idiots and not just the Newsome's of the world. I had a town hall phone call with Fleischmann years ago and called him out on the master plan for the Chickamauga lock and subsequent downtsream locks. He sounded dumbfounded.

Must think they can harness the wind from all the hot air Pelosi exhales.

"Every battery in an electric car sold in the U.S. comes with a warranty that lasts for a minimum of eight years or up to 100,000 miles, says CarFax. For example, Kia offers a battery pack warranty for 10 years or 100,000 miles, while Hyundai provides a lifetime coverage of its electric cars' batteries."

Yea you have about a decade to not worry about the battery. Just like said. The buyer of a new car won't have to worry about the battery. And by then the cost will be much lower way in 2035.

A nothing burger to cry about from conservative snowflakes.

You still believe everything that marketing types tell you? I'd just about bet your phone, power tools, or other battery operated devices never worked that well over a ten year span, but you still believe the hype and everything's gonna be all right.

It's a mixed bag for the rest of us; Cali just gave us an upcoming electric power and used car market. Good thing they still believe they have more economic power than most countries. I'm unlikely to be worried about our electric power rates skyrocketing in 2035 because there's money to be made in selling power to Cali, but you may want to be prepared.

They’re actually not mandating the electric car. It’s much dumber in reality.

They’re essentially mandating all new cars are bought out of state.

Good idea, huh? Nope.

Only car dealers left in CA will be used cars that will be shipping out of state used cars into CA like never before.

All the new car dealers will just close shop in CA and move to AZ, NV and OR.

You all should try being married to a Latina sometime.

Hey, it was your choice; but, you know, there are probably plenty of the rest of us who really aren't sure about the grass being greener in the other pasture. :D
