Calipari full of it at Big Blue Madness...

To me, if there is a consistant drop off, then he should feel the heat. My main arguing point is that people are not factoring in the natural ebb and flow of college basketball and want to sharpen their sticks for a 21 win season that got us the East division and a spot in the SEC finals. UConn, Duke, Florida, Ohio State and others pay their coaches a ton of money and have the same ebb and flow issues. When did we get so arrogant?

I just don't know why it is necessary to anticipate the negative as opposed to anticipating the positive. The whole "if Pearl doesn't do this" philosophy. I haven't seen a UT coach recruit like this since O'Neill and I haven't seen the consistantcy of good results since, arguably, DeVoe. I certainly haven't seen the combination of the two in my lifetime in Knoxville.

So, saying that he's not making us into North Carolina or Kentucky is not really a good reason, to me, for Pearl to have any kind of job security issues. He starts giving us Vandy or South Carolina results, then yes.

Last year was Vandy or South Carolina like results. Being a bubble team that sneaks into the tournament as a 9 seed is not where I think this program needs to be with its facilities and fan base. I'm not saying it should be like UNC or UK either, but there is a lot of room between UNC's program and being a bubble team. We need to be somewhere in the middle where we aren't having to wonder if we're going to steal a spot in the 'AAs.

That's when the program will be where I want it to be. I thought we might have been there after the '07-'08 season, but last year we regressed back to being a bubble team.

But, this is what I mean with ebb and flow. Some of those elite teams above have been in the NIT, didn't even make the NCAAs. I could have told you we would've regressed last year after what we lost in graduation. I mean it's one year, ONE YEAR!!, in which we "only" won 21 games and won the East. That's not even Vandy results. When did they even win the division or make the finals of the SEC?

In any event, there's no way a result like last year should even remotely put Pearl "on the hot seat". We WILL have seasons in which we will sweat out an NCAA bid. Ohio States has, Syracuse has, Florida has, Kentucky has. It's the nature of the beast.

A 9 seed isn't really a buble team, and we didn't "steal a spot" in the tournament. 21-12, 10-6 might not have been ideal results, but they had us firmly in the tournament by anyone's calculation.

I'm not sure what your point is, but that post didn't make it.

In my opinion, when you are a 9 seed with 10+ losses and are in a weak conference, you are essentially on the same level as a bubble team. That was my point. My vision for the program is to win between 24-28 games per year and not be one the last 6 or 8 into the tournament. We need to be playing for seeding in February not playing to get in. I'm not sure how that is difficult to understand.

But, the point he was making was that we were definitely not one of the last 6 or 8 into the tournament. In fact, we probably got screwed on our seed because our RPI and SOS were very strong.

Tennessee's resume last year did not put them on the bubble; I'm not sure how that is difficult to understand.

If you post erroneous information, some people will not be understanding.

Good points, and normally with those numbers you would be spot on. However last year, I honestly do believe you were playing for seeding, and not to get in. Not great seeding, mind you, but the non conference schedule you had plus 20 wins equals admission into the tourney. Had you finished really strong and won the SEC tourney, then you would have had a better seed obviously. But you were in regardless, IMO.

As for a bubble team, I think you were in that group solidly in right before the bubble teams were discussed.

I agree. I think we are arguing different points, and I probably have just done a bad job of explaining my position. I think we need to win 24-28 games a year, and be playing for a seed above 6 every year. I think that is a legitimate goal. Anything below that would be considered disappointing. My point was that being a 9 seed with our record puts us basically on the same level as Arizona, a 12 seed. I want to be on the level of Texas who is always in the tournament and usually always is seeded above 6.

Yeah, different points. If you continue your out of conference SOS and win the majority, with 24-28 wins you should never fall below a 4. IMO.

I think that's a good overall goal, but I also think they must be adjusted. A 6 seed in 2008 would have been below par to me, while a 6 seed last year would have been good.

My point was that we need to establish some consistency.

for a coach who has left a few other programs on the hills of major infraqactions to stand up and talk about superior acadimic standards and the program will be run with integrety ,calipari has never coached with integraty and acadimic standards thats the main reason he left ,and with in 5 to 7 years he will slither away or be kicked to curb for kentucky being put on the worst probation a program can get with out the suspension of the basketball program and be forced to give up every win or tital that uk won during his coaching years, out of the 40 million he was paid to coach ky i bet he bought every recruit that he got because none had uk on list before john wall and his parents are going to move from carolina and move into one of those big houses in lexington, wall probally got atleast 1.5 million from calipari through 4 different offshore accounts to his great great uncle luthor who died and left the family millions ,and the same goes for the other 5 star recruits who probally got a cool million to come to ky and sny future recruits can get money before the nba if they come to kentucky ,but everyone here will read my post and think he is just making that up,but former university of kentucky football player tony mays could tell you if he wanted to his dad was a big blue fan and lived in claiborne county tennessee and his son played football in highscool in ky and his dad made a deal that put my son on team ,and i will spend a million a year slipping the money to kentucky players parents or signess and recruits, which he did from the early 80 till he died some years back ,i know he paid recruits and other boosters did to because i worked some for him and he knew my dad was auk fan and he wonderd why i wasnt and he used to brag and talk about it while we worked or drove around ,and that is just one millionair ky booster who gave money to recruits and their parents to get them in blue,i saw checks written for sums ranging from 160,000 to 2.3 million and they werent sent to the university of kentucky straight up it was like a cia operation funneling money to this person and that one and here and there to be give to recruits and players and he has been dead for 8 or 9 years, but the guy who posted earlier said that ky fans were rabid and wanted a winner so they have bought a lot of victories and calipari has the nerve to talk integrety no uk basketball fan that has more mony than he can spend has integrety they have paid for winners so when calipari gets cought or a former player gets disgruntled and shows concrete evidence that millions of dollars have been paid to players the ncaa and sec should cut uks bb program out for about 10 years

Is this a serious post? For the poster's sake, I hope not. That is the largest block of text with no punctuation that I have ever seen. I also enjoyed the spellings of caught (cought), money (mony), integrity (integrety) and title (tital).
