Calipari should be fined.

I don't think you have to cuss necessarily if you don't want to but you have to break their will and make them feel two feet tall or they will never respect you and will run all over you.

Our head coach used to say: "You belong in special ed with my wife"....his wife was a special ed teacher, but I laughed every time the dumbass said it.

I told the story in another thread but myself and my mother got called names I hadn't heard before by my college coach during an intrasquad scrimmage. A scrimmage, a scrimmage, a damn scrimmage.

this whole issue tickles me. if the worst thing that happens to TJ is that someone tells him he's playing/acting/thinking like a dumbass when he's playing/acting/thinking like a dumbass, i'm sure he'll be alright. i'm glad ya'll weren't at the practices i've been at this week. i heard the coach of a women's team repeatedly (during the same practice!!!!) refer to the players as p*ssies/f'in p*ssies and during a bad's men's practice this week every player was addressed as f'in (insert players name here) and told they were soft asses/p*ssies/etc. i guess ya'll are just a lil more bible belt oriented than i thought.

It's part area, but most part is the fact it's Calipari. You'll notice it's the posters who keep comparing Pearl's transgressions with everything and everyone under the sun.

John Calipari still has a few fans left in Memphis, at least at the Streets Ministries organization.

The former University of Memphis basketball coach has donated $1 million -- payable over five years -- to the group that works to help underprivileged children in Memphis.

I'm not saying it is a good thing but are you saying he’s a bad man? Just out of curiosity as far as “LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED TOU" goes, what have YOU done?

Calipari has officially apologized to Terrence Jones for C's profane tirade on the sidelines. What Calipari did is far worse and more damaging than what Bruce did. Calipari's ass-chewing of Jones laced with the f-word reflects poorly on Kentucky and hurts with recruiting. What parent wants to send their son to play under a man who has a meltdown and curses like some punk out of the hood? I personally think Calipari should be fined.

Calipari is Machiavelli -- he reigns through fear and respect. He also gives lots of hugs here and there too. It's brilliant. What he did to that kid the other night sent a clear message of what Cal expects from his team and what it takes to win consistently on the highest level.

It's also worth noting that parents DO want their sons playing under a man who curses like some punk out of the hood. Where do you think the kids that played for Cal in Memphis (Waggner, Evans, Dorsey, ....) played high school, Deer Field Academy? Get real, these kids came from the hood. So I would call what Cal does "identifying" with the kids and speaking their language. The #1 priority for kids coming out of the hood is RESPECT. Look at a kid in the hood the wrong way and you might end up getting hurt. The point is that Cal knows what it takes to shake these kids up and get them to buy into a system (usually the first of their lives with an structure). What happened didn't hurt him at all.

Oh, and if Calipari gets fined for cussing his player, BP should be afraid, very afraid of what his punishment will be.

It does look bad on TV. But like most have said, there are plenty of coaches that do it. I didn't see people pissed of when Coach K about threw his clipboard and dropped F bombs during a timeout vs. UVA Saturday. Coaches know how player's respond. Bruce said that when Lofton was here he would never yell at him because Chris took it to heart and would result in affecting his game. Coaches know how each player will respond to criticism.

A friend of mine who is a helluva coach picks a kid with each team who he knows has the strongest character and is usually one of his better players. He brings that kid into his office at the beginning of the year and tells him he is going to be his scape goat. It's his way of getting the point across to the rest of the team. Can't coach or cuss them all the same way

Don't fine him. Just get it over with and fire him. 99% of schools would have fired him on the spot.

If a player does not like cussing then do not play for Calipari. He can coach how ever he wants. Most players like him and they know he can get them to the NBA sooner rather than later if they are good.
