Calling Out the Students.....

Well I must be seeing a different team then you are. I see a team that is improving week by week even if it's just little things, and you can see that these guys are being coached. I'm sorry if you don't see it that way. Just continue to look at the bad things and ignore the good.

Somebody should try to find the thread about charging students for tickets when Hamilton first enforced that. As I recall most people were for charging students. I thought it was ridiculous then and I think it was ridiculous now. We need every drunken student yelling their brains out at the games and making them pay for tickets will hinder that. Like some alluded to, part of the fun of Tennessee football back in the day started well before kickoff. It was standing in line all night hoping you got good tickets to the Florida game. We need to fill the stands at all cost.

I was there from 1980-1984. Tickets were not free, the cost was buried in the tuition and broken out on the statement as "Activity Fees Cost"(quarterly fees) No semesters back then. We were given a "Activities Card" once tuition was paid. One student could go to the University Center with up to 3 other student's activity cards. (4 tickets total) Stood in line and got whatever tickets were given to you. Almost always packed out. My bet is it's easier today....no standing in line. Nothing was free!!

As an alum that was there during the switch, I can tell you that you are incorrect. We were under this impression also. When it was brought up that "We already pay for tickets", we were informed that the "Activities Fee" covered: Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis, Swimming, and a bunch of other mess no one cared about. They also stated that it was to cover intramurals and TRec fees. Students now pay a higher Activity Fee than you did plus a per game ticket fee.

If UT wants to raise attendance for a team like South Alabama, here is the Recipe:

First, Field a team that is competitive.

Second, don't start the game @ 11:30am. Have a night game or something cause it will probably end up PPV anyways... (If we happen to get a kick on TV then students will just sit at home and watch it since its an early morning game.)

Third, Don't charge people. I can see Florida, Georgia, Alabama, etc. where people are fighting over tickets but very few students (who go to 6+ games a year) are going to spend the money on a sub-par opponent that is a morning game...

Part of what you say I agree with, but right now CBJ cannot field a more competitive team. He has to work with what he inherited, and I think he is doing a very good job with what he has. If you're a true Vol fan, and love the experience of college football, you will come out and support the team no matter who they are playing. Of course, this is just me, and I guess not everyone agrees unfortunately. When I was a UT student, I always loved going to the games, and did not care who they were playing, or how the team was doing.

I'd give anything to be back in the Student Section during Saturdays in the Fall.

Very true, I'm a 00-04 alum, loved every game that I went to and miss it dearly, Made some great friends at the games and went to some great parties afterwards. There is no excuse for students not to spend part of their Saturdays in Neyland.

Oh one other thing, going to games especially "sure wins" also means you can hangout and meet ladies from the other school and usually go kick it with them on the strip after the game.....

Noon game with a lackluster opponent after two losses...it's setup pretty poorly to expect a large crowd.

When I was a student it didn't matter what time the game starts...we got our asses out of bed and were properly wasted a couple hours later. Heck, when Gameday came to UT we were up at 8:30am, and I was puking by 10:30. That's the kind of dedication I'd like to see from every UT student.

I see a team that lost by 44 to Oregon. I see a team that gained all of 6 yards in the first half against Florida and lost to a QB who had never thrown a pass in college. Sorry if I fail to see all the improvement being made.

most students these days would rather party at frat houses or apartments, drinking jack and cold beer and watching the game on 70 inch HD TVs, with young lovelies on their lap, rather than go to the game in some cramped seat in hot weather, paying $4 for a watered down coke

This per the Twitternet:

"ACC Football News @accfootballnews: Even at Alabama, 32% of student seats went unused by students between 2009 & 2012, when the Crimson Tide won three national championships."

Interesting.

Sorry that you're so down on this coaching staff and so negative.

Honestly, because the experience is so bad for students now. You don't feel apart of the football team, if you get too crazy they threaten to escort you out, and if you're noticeably drunk, you're not even let in. Not to mention trying to sneak stuff past the 5000 cops standing at the student entrance.
