Campus Police and KPD plans to silence Neyland Rowdys

How to enjoy the game and enjoy some drinks. I drink before, during and after they game never getting obnoxious. But when I arrive to my seats I greet most around with smile and hand shakes. Generic questions too while shaking hands. We ready for this? Think we can win? Ect. Then I tell the group around me we need to be loud tonight/day guys are gonna need us. Let's all get loud when we are on D. I never have any issues and usually most will get in the game a little more. Works for basketball too. So, greet your neighbor, no F bombs and yelll like hell when we're n D all will be good. GOVOLS!
UT needs to hire you as a fan life coach

It's called the real world man. Sorry to inform you, not everyone is nice, courteous and well behaved. The sooner all of us learn that the better. Not everyone will get a trophy, some of us will lose the game and be booed, name-called etc.....

All you have to say is look.....see how that man/woman is behaving, now don't grow up to be or act like that. That's basically it, unless someone directs language or behavior towards you, there's no reason to get on your high horse with someone who came to the game to yell their head off for the Vols. Goodness this Politically Correct wuss country is going to the dogs man. I hope they don't start a cussing chant against ole bob stoops where half the stadium is yelling a cuss word, you might have to take the kids home at once for fear of them learning a curse word.

C'MON MAN!!!!

It's not being a pc wuss to want to live in a more courteous and polite society. It's hard enough trying to guide kids these days without being bombarded at what used to be a fun place. Neyland is definitely not the same place I used to go as a kid

You just kicked the hornets nest with that one...

I don't have kids yet but won't hesitate to take them to games because of the environment. I set in Neyland by myself as a middle schooler when we couldn't find 5 together. We'd buy 2 pairs and a single; my dad would take my sister and my mom would take my younger brother. And I come from a family that drinks very casually and rarely cusses. Guess they just didn't feel the need to be helicopter parents like so many today.

Our best family friends have been UF season ticket holders for as long as their boys have been alive. They grew up going to every game in Gainesville in the Spurrier era. If a kid can survive the Swamp in the 90's unscathed, anyone can tolerate Neyland.

Actually foul language is against the rules. So, the play devil's advocate, if a fan is prone to obscene outbursts then maybe they they should stay home and not the kids?

Side note- do fans that yell at refs think the refs can hear them?

Rules:

UT and SEC Fan Code of Conduct

In the spirit of sportsmanship, fans shall:

Conduct themselves in a manner that represents UT, the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA with honor, dignity and respect.

Demonstrate qualities of civility and sportsmanship at all times.

Not use vulgar, abusive, racist, sexist, demeaning, or intimidating language at any time.

Support the players, coaches and officials in a positive manner.

Treat the visiting team, coaches and fans with courtesy and respect at all times.

Not engage in cheers that are vulgar, crass or demeaning.

Refrain from throwing objects onto the floor for any reason.

Not become inebriated or belligerent.

Refrain from entering playing and team areas at any time, including the game.

Be a positive role model for those around you by treating others with courtesy and respect!

I'm sure fans in Baton Rouge and Gainesville respect those rules to their fullest and if they don't they call security.

Ive learned over the past few years that if you criticize or get mad at Butch or any of the players, BU-BYE! Neyland stadium and the KPD are communists compared to other stadiums. The ushers and police are just salivating and waiting to throw you out or put you in a patty wagon headed for jail...total disgrace! They are mean. Its the uptight, rich fans that love pointing the finger saying "that guy right there said this or said that...whaaaah...bunch of crybabies if you ask me. If you are not on perfect behavior, don't look for the USHERS to come get you out....it will be the KPD. Joke....

Making visiting fans fear coming to Knoxville is a good thing????? You want to see Tennessee fans behave like Florida Gator fans??

I hope that most Vol fans are welcoming and courteous to visiting fans. As a matter of fact, I have spoken with many opponent fans who have been to a game at Neyland and they spoke highly of the Vol fan base.

You're talking about starting crap and being an ass to fans compared to yelling at the field in frustration (whether they can hear you or not). I don't have run-ins with opposing fans because I try to treat them like I'd want to be treated. Going to multiple away games
a season, I always hope that my actions at home, towards opposing fans, are somehow remembered and reciprocated. I'm not above losing my mind over a call and yelling an obscenity but I don't let that boil over to my personal interaction with fans. I survived 8 straight years of UF-UT games, sitting in the UF section every time, without incident.

I got caught with a small amount of bourbon at both UF and FSU games. Was told to pour it out and go on about my business. At Neyland you'd be run out at the drop of a pin.

You are a classy individual who sets a great example.
I am certain that many people have taken note and emulated you when they have gone to games.

Man you guys are way behind the times if you aren't getting your hands on some powdered alcohol. You get get so wasted so fast and nobody has a clue that you are drinking booze. It's perfect for gamedays. Nothing like getting blackout drunk during the game, that's what I'm talking about

I have been to a few games in Gainseville and thought that it had the rudest fans I have ever run across. The president of a local UT Alumni group had a pitcher of beer poured on her head at a bar near the stadium.

I have never seen opposing fans treated badly at any game I have attended in Knoxville. On the contrary, I have seen them invited to tailgates by Vol fans.

I'm sure we have those that do treat others badly but I haven't ever witnessed that in all our years of going but on the other hand have witnessed the opposing fans being jerks & etc.. mostly Bama fans ..

I'm in favor of getting the drunks out.

At last year's bammer game, a drunk behind me kept kneeing me in the back and apologizing for it. He then felt obligated to look over my shoulder and comment on what I was doing on my phone during the game. One of his buddies was slapping an elderly woman sitting to my left on the head with a shaker in such a way that he almost certainly knew what he was doing. The elderly man to my left almost got in a fight over that.

Actually the elderly couple left and complained to the police on the way out, but before they went, he told me he would never come back to Neyland.

I and another person in the section then also went and complained to the police. After I went back to my section I almost got into a fight myself when the drunk behind me kept grabbing my shoulder (and digging his nails in) and saying "hey bro how bout that play!". I dam near cold cocked the SOB, but instead I turned around and told him if he touched me again I would "touch" him back. :)

Then the cops brought like 16 guys and hauled all 8 of the people behind us off.

Sorry but we don't need trash like that in Neyland. Get rid of em all I say.

You don't have to be drunk to be loud, but if you're going to be an obnoxious a**hole that's a sure way to do it. :)

Yep! Me and two other friends were at the Vandy game back in 2013...all 3 of us are professional UT Alums. I guess my friend was swearing and getting upset at the team and some Mommy didn't like it so she squealed on us and actually saw her point at our row and goes "that's the guy right there hes swearing loud". So, you would think ushers would be coming down to handle the situation...nope...here comes 3 KPD cops trucking down the bleacher rows to come get us. Not only does my friend that swore get kicked out, but they escorted all 3 of us into the concourse area, threw us up against the brick wall and patted us down LIKE WE WERE FREAKIN CRIMINALS!! All 3 of us felt so disrespected that the one wrote a letter to UT about the fiasco. Ive never been treated so awful at a stadium...especially MY OWN ALMA MATER!!! I literally said that Id never go back to Neyland Stadium for a home game...Im paranoid anymore! Ill stick to away games...get treated much better!

This thread really does have it all.

Yes it does...........

The best thing about being an alum is not having to sit in the student section. :D

Having college aged kids of my own and a high school freshman with more Vol IQ that the students sitting around us at the Bowling Green game, I've come to realize that my tolerance is really low when someone yells at Dormady "Throw the damn ball! We didn't recruit you to hand it off every down!" Really? Ahead 26 pts in the 4th quarter? Really? Or the 2 sorority chicks that told me "I don't want to. Go away" when I asked her or her friend if they would take a photo with my phone of me and my boys and their cousin in front of the stadium. One got a doubled barreled tutorial in manners while the other took the photo as fast as she could before her friend embarrassed her anymore.

Who raises these kids?

99% of fans are "under the influence" when they come into the stadium from drinking all day at tailgate parties--what's the big deal??

Their sidewalk alumni are the really bad ones IMO. I've had plenty of f-bombs hurled my way but nothing thrown at me and nothing overly confrontational. I've normally set with alumni friends utilizing their tickets so it's a calmer crowd.

I got barked at by a drunk lady in Commonwealth Stadium. I was 16 and she got in my face and started barking at me. I still lol thinking about it.

When they come from drinking all day at tailgating parties...maybe...but the vast majority in Neyland are not drunk.

I could see where a majority have had "some" alcohol, or a substantial minority, but those who are completely ****faced are a minority for sure. I have no idea about the percentage, but I would guess under 10%.

Hail, I don't hardly drink anymore but I'm drunk with happiness when we come into Neyland!!! I mean, it's the real deal, don't need no stinkin alcohol to make a game more exciting...

Gosh if so many come in drunk, maybe AA needs to set a booth up at all the entrances..
