Maybe. I'd have to think the top 4-5 are Calipari, Stansbury, Cuonzo, and Anderson. Maybe Billy Donovan in there too. If you want to talk about doing your best with a bad situation I think you've gotta take Coach Martin especially if we finish strong.

If you take into effect all of the uncertainty in recruiting that he had to deal with before the NCAA finally gave their ruling, I think to date he's done an excellent job in navigation our program from an unorganized, soft team who has a tendancy to play down to their opponent, to a team with a bulldog mentality.

I am very happy this man is our Coach. I was a big Bruce Pearl fan also and I hope he eventually gets a chance to coach again, but I think the move to Coach Martin has been a good thing to rebuild our fanbase and help everyone heal from the coaching change quickly.

This is easily one of his best seasons ever. A close second to his '07-08 season at Memphis. I hate Cal and UK with a passion, but you have to give credit where it's due. He has done an incredible job this season.

If Cali-cheater goes undefeated in conference (which he probably will), do we have to give him the COY award?

I mean, I could coach that bunch and win...

He clearly gets the cheater / recruiter award.

Billy D is underachiving. Stallings in the hunt I suppose...depending on finish. Stansbury...so so.

If you look at it from where they were predicted to finish, to actual finish, doubt that anyone beats Cuonzo in that regard.

Before the season started I didn't think we could bet anyone, but I was wrong. Should we give Mike Hamilton his job back?

I don't like Cal but I'd give it to him with Martin a close 2nd. Kentucky hasn't played the easiest schedule (north carolina, indiana etc...) and they've done it all with one loss. His team is playing really good and it's hard to find a weakness. Not to mention, that defense is pretty amazing.

It's Cal's to lose. Martin is the only other coach in position to make a move IMO. If we don't win out the regular season, I don't see how anyone can justify giving it to a coach not named Calipari.

No way Stallings is the conversation. They were highly ranked preseason and have underachieved in most people's eyes.

Considering the circumstances, CCM has done a good job, so why not !! Like CDD, he has faced the challenge of turning chicken poop into chicken salad . :hi:

When you break it down by each coach I can see it being between Cal and Martin. I just think Cal is doing what is expected and if you are really going on the coach that has done the best job then I don't see how Martin doesn't get it. I don't think Cal could do with our guys what Martin has done.

I agree with this. It will be subject to how the rest of the season goes. All I know is we have one heck of good basketball coach that doesn't cheat or give one inch to an opponent or even his own players (Re: Kenny Hall). That pays huge dividends over the long term.

When I think of what qualifies as a great coaching job for coach of the year...I think of a coach having to take average-above average players and make them over achieve their own abilities. Even though Cal only has one loss...with the level of players he has he is not exceeding the level of talent he has to put out on the court every night. Cuonzo for sure is. Just my :twocents:

Stansbury's team has been inconsistent, as well. It is Cal's to lose. Martin might end up 2nd or 3rd if we win out.

If he makes a good run in the SEC tourny or makes the NCAA tourny, I think he has a great shot.

Exactly!! It is not like anyone is just stunned that KY only has one loss. I do agree unfortunately that Cal probably will win it though. Coy is about like the Heisman in that it isn't always the one that deserves it the most but the one that get the most publicity that gets it. IMO
