Can JaMarcus Russell play QB in the NFL...

JaMarcus Russell=Daunte Culpepper.

I said that Culpepper would bust when he came out. I also thought Vick would never be a true game winner at qb.(Thought he would have been better suited to be gimmick player at wr) That being said I think Russell is more along the lines of a McNair than a Culpepper.

And yeah, Al Davis is still walking the earth after apparently dying of unnatural causes in 1974.

Mike Vick is the exception to this theory, and before I say more, I'd like to clarify that I dont mean to sound racist. We are discussing a very specific group of Qb's that are being compared. I just want to clarify that before my next point.

Air McNair didn't rely too much on his legs on college. He threw for like 450 yards a game at Alcorn.

Of the "premiere" african American Qb's, Vick was by far the most talented, and McNabb was the best leader.

JaMarcus will suffer the same failures as Culpepper. Guys like Garrard, Cambell, Lemon, and Jackson are all doomed to the same fate. Hell, aTm sent their stud African American QB to the NFL and Cincy turned him into a dope dealing wide out. (Reggie McNeal) Im sorry guys but these guys have not proven anything, other than they can make it to the NFL. Big, athletic, African American Qb's have short lived carreers in the NFL unless they have a brain. Vick did dumb stuff...he's gone. Philly fans are not as in love as they once were for Donavan...too bad, Moon retired, and the jury is still out on Vince Young. We'll see how it turns out for him. I had to literally google those others except Cambell, and I knew who he was because I watch SEC football. They are in, there is a huge amount of hype, and they are gone and all of that happens in about 3 years. It is not a race thing, it is a talent thing. And by the way, I can list off plenty of white boy qb's that are one hit wonders.

Without a great supporting cast he's doomed. When Moss was no longer there, Culpepper sucked out loud. And has ever since. If Russell gets in a situation where he has a great line, solid running game and a top recieving corps, he will be fantastic. But if he has to be "the guy", he will fail. In dramatic, spectacular fashion. (See Akili Smith) And with a truckload of cash so he won't care.

As for dumb white QB's, well there's a list a mile long there too. Of course Leaf tops the list along with Marinovich (sp) Dan McGwire, David Klingler, Tim Couch, Cade McNown and any QB from U of Florida. And this is just the last ten years or so.
Money really has killed the pro athlete. They play for the big contract, then they just coast till the next contract year, then they play like hall of famer's. No way should these guys make that much for playing sports.

Correct. I should have been clearer. The fact that it was Alcorn St and the quality of defense ( or the lack thereof) contributed greatly to his passing prowess.

Oh, how does that tie in with the irrelevant JaMarcus Russell? Because him and some kid in Jacksonville are built similiar? And the other part of his argument about the backup for Eli? Seriously, those guys mattered?

You gave no reason for Russell's future failure other than him being fat and you said he's going to certainly be a backup for a insignificant team. Lorenzen is a fat backup for the SB Champs.

Fat boy is going to be searching for a new team. David Carr is the new backup in NY.

With the quality of the Raider line I think Russell's weight issue will haunt him because of his mobility. He is going to take a lot of shots because of the Raiders offensive line.

Sort of like the Detroit Lions effect going on there in Oakland.

"Such and such player really sucks."
"Yeah, but they do play for Oakland/Detroit..."
"True."

I don't know why you're so high on Carr. He's more ineffective in the pocket than any QB in the NFL, having been sacked over 3 times a game. Additionally, last season the talk was (post Delhomme injury) how Carr should have been more productive behind the Panther's OL, a perceived big upgrade over the lowly Texans, yet he failed badly. Plus, if the Giants were so quick to get rid of Lorenzen, I doubt they would have tendered him. All granted, I do think he ends up as Eli's backup, but still blows.

To be honest, Carr was an unknown quantity in the NFL up until last season. It's simply inaccurate and in poor judgment to brand a QB for his play for a team like Houston.

He's damaged goods because he played for the Texans. He can't help but freak out every time the pocket begins to break down. He will probably never be right again assuming he ever was.

If you think Carr is running Lorenzen out of NY, you're high on Carr. He's done little over the course of his career and his play last season was pathetic at best.

What planet are you from?

The NY Football Giants signed David Carr to be the backup quarterback.

I didn't...........

Do you realize that most NFL teams have more than 2 quarterbacks on their roster?

The Giants have yet to announce Carr as the 2nd string and they tendered Lorenzen's contract. Yeah, it sounds like Carr has been automatically handed the backup spot in NY.

At 300 lbs?

I think he is gonna be a bigger bust than Ryan Leaf. He had some dang good WRs at LSU that made him look good.

The Raiders would of been better off drafting Brady Quinn
I ripped the raiders last yr when they drafted this kid. I thought it insane to make a guy the #1 pick overall when he didn't even start all 4yrs at LSU.As far as brady quinn is concerned i don't think he can play in the NFL,but i think he will soon get the chance probably sometime this yr to prove me right or wrong.

TA.

With them having Fargas and Mc Faddden, he will have no excuses other than the O-line. I hope he tears it up, but I still have my doubts...
