Can Nico have a great year next year

I too have a lot of optimism in Nico. We’ve seen how explosive heupel offenses when he has a quarterback that (above all else) can consistently throw accurate passes. Unfortunately, Joe, Milton just never could consistently throw accurate balls. He would have a little spurts where he played well. But against the better defenses, he was bad for the most part.

We won’t know for sure if Nico is the man till we see him do it. But I can’t fathom that he wouldn’t be better than Milton. Huge plays were available all year in the passing game but we just couldn’t capitalize most of the time.

And as OP alluded to… We missed a ton of running lanes with Milton as well. He was so indecisive with many of his runs that by the time he would decide to go, it was too late. Part of being a really effective runner as a qb is mental. The qb has to see a seam and make a quick/definitive decision to go. The faster their first 2 or 3 steps are the more likely the play will be a success. Nico has certainly shown some explosiveness and moxie in the run game throughout his career

With him scrambling and quick, he can make a defense stay humble. I really do feel like we can be quick snapping the ball again. I feel like he will be a ble to throw perfectly on the run to someone. What else can he do?
Based on the potential returning O-Line and Backs that are returning....I don't anticipate Him running much at all.

I know a lot don’t like him on here but I like to listen to Dave Hooker. He still has friends who are tied to the program. He has been saying for quite awhile that Nico is as advertised and possibly better. So if he if what we think he is, along with a veteran OL, a loaded RB and WR corp a potential really good TE, then I think he could have a great year.

Nico is freak athlete and he is going to be special. There is a reason Nick embarrassed himself to try to get him to sign with Alabama, I have never heard of him doing that with any other player.

What did he do? I honestly haven't heard that story.

With regard to the OP; i do expect Nico to flourish next year with his ability and willingness to scramble, when/if things break down. There likely will be some mistakes that will result in sacks and interceptions, but overall i see the offense performing at a high level. Assuming the WRs we hope come back do and the Oline returning, i cant think of a reason the Offense doesnt score a lot of points.

The night before ESD Nick went to visit Nico at his home. Nico wouldn't see him and left him standing outside his hat in hand. He became one of my Mt. Rushmore Vols before taking a snap at UT.

That's exactly what I was thinking. To me, the really only couple of things we have to wait and see on is does his competitive spirit, and presence in the pocket line up the same as Hooker. Those are two intangibles outside of arm talent and running ability which ultimately separate the good from the great.

I think Nico will be great after some real game experience. I still cannot say his last name, it comes out E-mommy-lava.

I think its E-uh-molly-ahhv-uh.

And yes, Nico can have a great year. Ainge says he has improved greatly over the season this year. With another spring and fall camp he should be ready to roll. I expect and improved passing game next year as well as improved stats in the QB running department with less sacks.

OMG that excites and scares me.

I am excited that the Vols may out perform the predictions and make CFP BUT I will hate to open VN and read all the whiners say that CJH totally screwed this year up by not starting Nico in 2023 over Joe.

Oh the mixed emotions.

Hubbs feels similarly. Was listening to a podcast recently when a caller asked them to grade the positions. When they got to QB Hubbs basically said it’d be nice to have some experience returning but based on what he’s seen at practice he wouldn’t trade Nico for anyone. Then asked Austin and the other guys who would they rather have and they all agreed that Nico is the real deal.

That being said, to answer the OP I do not expect a “great” season because we don’t have any proven receivers. There’s tons of potential, but little evidence.

I like you, so no offence, but Dave Hooker is ignorant of football, so is his partner.
