Can Nico have a great year next year

Who are the recent redshirt freshman or first year starter, true sophomore QBs in the SEC? I don’t follow football as closely as I used to so I can’t think of anyone besides Tua and I’m not so sure that he wasn’t a redshirt sophomore his first full year as starter.

I believe Trevor Lawrence started for Clemson halfway through his freshman year? Can’t think of anyone else recently though.

I have high hopes for him I think it remains to be seen how much he will quicken up his release and decision making. We haven’t got enough time watching him to see how he truly will preform. Next year it really depends on receiver play. If he’s able to quicken up his reads and be accurate down field and the WR’s help him out it could be something amazing. Although he didn’t start as many high school games as a lot to players did and there will be a learning curve. I’m hoping he’s a better decision maker than clemsons cade klubnik for example. His arm talent and mobility are no joke although I’ve noticed he has a tendency to overthrow while on the run which is something I’m sure he’s working on. And would likely improve regardless when he’s in for a few series and settles down. Fundamentally he’s looked solid and I like the footwork and pocket presence I saw from him in his limited appearances. Also got to see some physicality against vandy.

Bryce Young
Quinn Ewers
Chase McCall

And probably more that I don't know about.

It's not that big of a jump like it used to be...

We go through this EVERY YEAR.
"He's only a freshman! He's not ready"😔

They all had good supporting cast (OL, WR etc.). It matters, just like it mattered this year when we had many OL out.

I can predict the threads already for next year when Nico has a bad game -

- Some: He's just a freshman
- Others: Freshman status shouldn't matter.
- And others: The back up QB is better not sure what CJH is doing starting Nico.

I kind of feel for him a little; he will be expected to be the savior of the program, but without some guys around him and better play calling, he can't do a whole lot.
I think we look better overall offensively than we have in some time, that is on paper, lol, even 2022, rb, wr, qb, ol

If I am being honest it is the defense I worry about next year. Really concerned we may have to score 50 to 60 points every game even against the supposed cupcakes to win.

Bru or a transfer WR would be nice to add.

Bru can beat 1 on 1 coverage with his size & strength. If he’s back, I’m good at WR.

I understand. still, first time starting. its a learning experience.
Yep, and his first true road game is Norman Oklahoma. They will be trying to make a statement that they belong in the SEC. Gonna be a bumpy ride.

Im not, we still need more good WRs. Stockpile them that way when they get hurt there isnt a drop off like there was this year.

You can’t play that many & sure can’t keep more than that happy.

Would expect Webb and Nimrod and possibly Leacock to enter portal after spring practice.

I know a lot don’t like him on here but I like to listen to Dave Hooker. He still has friends who are tied to the program. He has been saying for quite awhile that Nico is as advertised and possibly better. So if he if what we think he is, along with a veteran OL, a loaded RB and WR corp a potential really good TE, then I think he could have a great year.

In his brief appearance against UCONN, he showed he is as advertised. He makes quick decisions. More than anything this offense needs a qb that can process a lot of information quickly and be decisive with the ball.

Wanna do that the collective needs a lot more donations. We’re already falling behind other schools. A few VERY important kids came back despite being offered a lot more at other schools.

I think Hyps fast paced O helps with the QB not having to sit in the pocket and make reads which should help Nico in the beginning. If Bru returns, along with Thornton, and if this new transfer kid from Tulane meets the hype, Squirrel, it should be a very good receiving corp with good depth and Nico can operate with his skills.

With him scrambling and quick, he can make a defense stay humble. I really do feel like we can be quick snapping the ball again. I feel like he will be a ble to throw perfectly on the run to someone. What else can he do?

His next year starts really soon with Joe opting out. I hope he doesn’t get beat up.

Based on the potential returning O-Line and Backs that are returning....I don't anticipate Him running much at all.
Seems like every team uses that read option play because it makes an end make a decision on which way he goes. In order to be effective Nico will need to keep it a couple times a game.
