Can this save the season... and more important things?

You can ignore that and just look at the test they've developed. Private. Simple. Cheap. No need for mask mandates or even social distancing restrictions. And we never get to that coming war over attempts to mandate vaccines.
My gut tells me this is likely why we'll never see the test happen.

Then it will get much worse...
Because if the vaccine works, then yes it needs to be mandatory.
No. It shouldn't. Vaccines are to protect the vaccinated person. It is a personal choice.

One of the vaccines supposedly attaches itself permanently to DNA. You don't just eat GMO's... you become one. No thanks.

Vaccines are KNOWN to carry their own set of risks. In a nation that at least still claims to respect individual rights... there is no place for that kind of mandate. If you want me to wear a mask... show me the study showing they work. If you want me to take a vaccine... satisfy my concerns about their safety.

Hmm, weird. At least where I live, people can get tested if they want. I got tested for free.

You should read the article. What Harvard has developed is a personal, private, instant test that you can perform at home for Covid. The results are not as "fine" as the clinical test but are much more timely. You can actually have an indication that you are infected BEFORE you are contagious with this test. The tests you get from health care facilities are almost always after you are contagious... before you consider they take 2+ days to anaylize.

Without seeing the data from the saliva test, I agree with the premise that the FDA needs to relax their criteria for a fast non-lab test for the virus. But I wouldn’t rely on a small startup to supply the strips. Get a big company to buy the rights/mass produce/distribute.

I agree that a vaccine that was effective would be great, it should be voluntary and nothing more...We should never ever be mandated by the government to put medications or anything else in our bodies.

Or administer hydroxychloroquine every couple of weeks and lets play the season.
Honestly, other than letting people use a safe drug even if it isn't effective... I don't have a strong opinion on HCQ. Some doctors say it works. Others claim it don't. I have to believe I would try to find a doctor who administered it if I got sick. The worst it could be is a cheap placebo.

I'm sure manufacture would be distributed to companies making test strips now.

Yes we should. They know best. The government Always does what’s right and noble for the good of their people. Name me one thing the private sector does that is better than the government? And don’t start with SpaceX. NASA was a much more cost efficient and better ran from the top down.

Writing to your congressman asking them to contact the FDA is not a bad idea. Alternatively, write to Dr. Janet Woodcock at the FDA directly. She has been assigned as the top point person at the FDA on all things Covid related.

If every every player decided to sign a hold harmless agreement and no fans were permitted in the stadiums, I'd be for it.
I want football.

Institutions could guarantee that all health care cost will be covered for the players, including all future claims related to COVID-19.

What’s the FDA standard for such things? It’s a double edged sword. A higher rate of false negatives could outweigh whatever benefit there is in capturing true positives earlier

I don’t know the exact standards. But I know that ‘time to get result’ is not part of the equation. That’s the issue. Too many lab tests are taking too long. The false negative rate is undoubtedly higher for the strip but my guess is that you would ask a user to take step test multiple times over a 48-72 hr period.

I consider this as an emergency use situation. If/when the lab backlog goes way down, then stop using the strips.

Many of us have gone around on various Covid related issues but this simple idea has the potential to make peace... and end Covid as a significant health threat.

Please read. If you agree that this makes sense pass it on to friends but ESPECIALLY any elected official at the state or national level you have access to.

Failing the Coronavirus-Testing Test

Interesting. Not sure if it was on here or a conversation I had with a friend, but I had a similar thought early on.

To play devil's advocate though, I promise you when people feel healthy, a large portion are headed out to society, no matter what the tests say. People get drunk and get behind a steering wheel. People cheat on spouses. Etc.

Re-read the article. This test doesn't exist. He is proposing one be developed to better control the spread. The author and you both agree with Bill Gates on the issue.
Bill Gates says most COVID-19 tests in the US are 'completely garbage' because it takes too long to get results
Developing this type of test and procedure was the federal plan until it was rejected at the highest level in April.

I absolutely agree with the idea and rationale of the article.

I got a covid test for free and I had the results the next day, on a Saturday, July 4th. Not bad

Then you clearly have firmly established your viewpoint, if you wanna call it that, based on whatever information you've been given.

Tell me what this is if it isn't a pandemic? (I think I know the lyrics to this song, I'd just like to hear them.)

I can give you a real pandemic. heart disease. And it's almost completely behavioral. Over 600,000 will die this year from heart disease in the US alone, and we continue to eat crap food with tons of sugar. That is a pandemic. Diabetes will kill over 1.7 million this year worldwide. Almost completely behavioral. Crap food with tons of sugar. Funny thing that we haven't heard a thing about getting healthy during this time. If you're healthy, Covid is so less dangerous. Also...take your zinc kids...it works.
