Can Trump TRULY unify the GOP, or has that ship sailed?

I'm glad you're still here for me. I'm not lying to you. I saw something, some plot, that seems to be happening, and it didnt have a happy ending.

Of course, the gw stuff is more a matter of common knowledge.

I don't think many people are disputing global warming, the earth has warmed and cooled since this flying rock came to be. What I disagree with and has not even came close to being proved is that man has had anything but a negligible impact on the earth warming.

My biggest problem with the global warming crowd is how it has been used as a means of control and enrichment. No question that the earth is warming but instead of pissing away tax dollars trying to stop or slow a process we (humans) cannot stop/slow why isn't that money being spent on figuring out how to live and thrive in a warming world?

I am not sure if this is 100% accurate as written. The Sahara was always a desert, the desert was significantly smaller 20,000 years ago and a lot of are that is now the Sahara was eligible farmland. Desertification turned the Sahara into the massive desert it is today and it continues to grow.

There was still somewhat of a desert there in ancient times as reflected to why Civilizations were huddled around the areas outside the desert such as the Nile, Libyan coasts, etc. This was even true in times of the Pharaohs or distant past with how Civilization developed.

Even from Roman history, we know that modern Tunisia, for example, was a breadbasket and great farmland but there was still desert further inland.
Good correction.

I should have typed, 'regions of the Sahara were full of vegetation'

Environmentalism is an area where I somewhat conflict with Conservatives at times.

I see some Conservatives that are openly hostile to any forms of Renewable Energy.

I am in the Middle Ground on it. I don't know enough about Global Warming to determine if it is occuring, what speed, how much mankind is impacting it, etc. I tend to think we are getting warming but some of that is natural and beyond even man's processes. However, man hasn't helped the situation.

The situation on my end is that the argument, to me, is irrelevant in some methods. I am going to take some of the "green" side either way because I don't like the idea of air put into our atmosphere that is unbreathable and I like the idea of experimenting with renewable energy because it is, well, renewable.

For example, Solar is important because Solar Panels are highly effective in Space once you have no atmosphere in the way and it will be vital for space exploration.

At the same time, I don't think it is good to put our economy into disarray to make it work which is what the radical Green movement wants. If there isn't global alignment and we rush the process, we will just crash our economy in favor of others and the Earth doesn't win in the long run. We only need to roll out these technologies when we are ready for them.
I don't have any issues with renewables. Dams and water running downhill has been used for millenia to get work done. i have a problem with renewables which are trading one "problem" for another. Nobody objective wants to see an environment inhospitable to life.
I think you're taking a reasoned approach which is all anyone can ask for.

By the way, the atmosphere is already over 70% unbreathable. Well, you can breath it, but it won't do you any good without O2.

Go to Mexico City and you will see what I talk about with regard to breathable air. There is a situation where the air quality can become problematic. Acid Rain isn't fun either.

I will state this as well, I still think Archeologists/Science doesn't quite have the full picture for what the Earth was like pre-Alexander the Great era. The only surviving literature from the Pre-Hellenic era is full of mythos. The most accurate, surviving document from that era is the Bible and even it is vague on the world and mostly focused on religious teaching and the Jewish nation. So there is still a lot of unknown in the Ancient era.

There is somewhat stronger documentation once you get into the Greco-Roman era. Ancient Egypt tends to have stronger records as well although, again, most of their writings are mythos focused and not on accurate history/science.

However, as stated in the Trump/Religious thread, I tend to believe there is some truth in the mythological writings from all of the ancient cultures.

Oh i get it. I remember smog, smog warnings, etc.

Here's the rub...if we do all we can to mitigate pollution to help a worldwide problem, who is forcing Mexico (or any other country) to clean up their act? By my assessment, USA uses a lot of energy but we also are much cleaner than countries which use less.

Agree 100%. China and India are a big part of the problem. This is where Green movements can get unreasonable. Issue is that I run into extremes both ways instead of a more moderate approach.

Would you think me a zealot if I said other countries should copy what we have done since the 70s and if they did, many of the concerns associated with climate change would be alleviated?

Honestly, countries should copy a lot of what America did in the past including current America. There are good things in our system that led to us being a World Power.

This is one thing that I don't get about the modern world. I was talking a lot about the Ancient World and it used to be "my culture won the war and is superior so you should model yourself after me." Persia was like that with their Empire, the Greeks after Alexander Hellenize the world because their culture was "better", and the Romans wanted to "Romanize" the world.

So I definitely get you. It is very unpopular to say that today because you will get labeled a "racist" but the Ancients would cheer you on (if that makes you feel better).

The idea of Ancients cheering me on does make me feel better. Which is kinda odd. 😎

You should watch the quick video I linked, it addresses the man made part of gw specifically.

I agree that theres potential for abuse here and that there are many bad ideas that should be avoided like carbon credits.

Without using someone else's thoughts on the subject, how would more energy in the water (warmer climate) only produce increased rainfall regionally? I understand weather patterns can and do change...the Sahara was an area full of vegetation 20,000 years ago. But aside from that naturally occurring phenomenon, how do you understand the increase to be limited to regional areas?
Mountains cause air to rise and cool, which causes water to precipitate out on one side and be dry on the other. It would just rain more on the one side of the mountains if there were more water in the air. Geography has a big impact on weather locally.

Thanks Matt Hinkin.

I have watched videos, read studies and done my own digging. Man made GW is a political movement and not (even close) a proven theory.

Science disagrees with you. Clearly you were digging in the wrong place. Sounds like you are more concerned about your MAGA bona fides being questioned than actual science.

The people/entities paying the scientists disagree with me, the scientists are just producing the reports their benefactors want.

Maybe the real question LG should be asking is “Can Biden unify the DEMS when a large percentage of his base is threatening to not vote for him over the war in Gaza? Or has that ship sailed?”
There is an American political party in disjointed disarray right now; but it ain’t the Republicans

You can be sure that the Democratic left will vote for Biden, Gaza or no Gaza. The Democratic left would walk over a mix of white-hot coals and broken glass before they'd abstain or vote for the gangster.

You obviously missed the percentage of Democrats in the Michigan primary voting “uncommitted”
And you obviously missed stories like THIS…..

Weren't scientists the ones telling us 2 weeks, 6 feet and paper masks would stop covid?

What does that have to do with anything? Nothing.
There are good scientists and bad scientists just like there are good cops and bad cops, good chefs and bad chefs, etc.
