Can we trade punters?

Our punter isnt going to get the job done......but it maybe all we have.......him out there running around before he kicks it is gonna get punts blocked against SEC teams.

Enjoy watching Australian Rules Football, but the rugby-style punting just doesn't fit into the American game. For every great punt there seem to be many more duds. Our punter today had one decent punt, & it couldn't compare to the UVA guy.
I mean it works if executed properly. We just weren’t great at doing it. Really inconsistent out there in punting today. This was definitely the most frightening aspect of our performance today.

Wrs had drops but they’ve performed in the past. Milton and those guys will get on the same page. This kid punting just didn’t look the part today and some will dismiss that but it will hurt us badly in conference play and cost us a game at the very least if we don’t clean that up.

The ignorance in this thread is astonishing.
Oh give me a break. Yeah I'm sure you were full of confidence after the first two shanks and awkward style in which the kid kicks the ball. We can only go by what we see on the field and AT THE TIME he looked terrible. I hope the kid does improve but I have a terrible feeling his weird "rugby" kicking style is going to come back to haunt us at some point in the season.

I wonder if teams will rush straight to get to the sides more when we punt since he runs there. They won't even have to worry about blockers then and have a straight path to him.

He seems scared , like the game is too fast for him. He had plenty of time and just created bad punts by rushing it and scrambling toward the sidelines. This is something that should have been seen in practice and resolved (or search for a new punter )
Did you listen to the post game presser. He has been punting very well in practice. That was literally his first game experience punting in American Football in front of a huge boisterous crowd. Remember, even though he is an older red shirt freshman, he has not played here at all. Give Him a chance.

Have you people never seen a rugby style kicker before? Our kicker last year even kicked rugby style a few times. Were you aware he played Australian Rules Football where everyone kicks with the same motion?

Awkward? There's been many punters doing this for years.

I said he looked scared. This is Southeast conference football---not Australian rules football. Giving opponents mid-field starting points will cost you wins playing tougher teams Why not just go after a typical punter that doesn't have to be re-trained or adapt to kicking normal ?

We'll have to wait-and-see on the Punter. He had 2 bad punts, but dude is a true Freshman and he played Australian Rules Football, not American football before. We had a lot of players that seemed to have opening-day jitters, and no different with him, but the overall philosophy with him makes sense.

It may not have mattered as much yesterday but will in sec play.

Longest 50 with an average 35.8, he needs to add about 10-12 yard to that average. Plenty of room for improvement.

Because we have coaches who trust their gut and their gut tells them this will work out better in the end.

I remember David Leaverton getting off to a rocky start. Everyone called him shank. He turned out to be a good punter

Largest crowd ever in Nissan Stadium. Not sure how long his "boots on the ground" in the U.S. of orange is, but there could be some nerves happening there taking those first snaps. Doug Matthews said last week he's done fine in practice. The fact he can punt running left or right, with either foot, must have some benefits. Heard that a lot of teams are signing Aussie rules players for kickers. This is why it's good to play a team that you can put up enough points on, and take your foot off the gas enough to get film on everyone and critique it once home. I would think that in short yardage situations, he could run the ball if the defense doesn't line up right. And the threat of that keeps a few guys busy that would become blockers for the returner.

Corrections will be made.
