Can you Imagine if this board was around in the late 70s early 80s

It was more dominant than you think. We went 73-14 from 1995 to 2001. Saban's run is also the most dominant in the history of the sport, so of course any run we've had isn't going to be as dominant as that.

I think you're also forgetting that FSU finished in the top 10 every single year from 1987 to 2000. Nebraska finished outside the top 10 just 11 times from 1962 until 1997 (35 years). When exactly was this era when there weren't dominant teams?

You don't like this era of football because UT hasn't been one of the dominant teams. Plain and simple.

Tennessee had 2 Conference Titles. To put that in perspective, Georgia had more Conference Titles under Mark Richt.

Spurrier murdered Tennessee every year. Alabama hasn't had a Spurrier in the way.

CFB has always been this way. 2 teams dominated the SEC in the 90s too. The only reason we didn't complain is we were one of the 2 teams doing the dominating.

CFB isn't designed to have, and never has had, much parity. It isn't set up like the NFL or professional leagues.
No it hasn’t, never has two teams dominated the SEC for this long like Bama and Georgia and frankly it’s a boring product.

The Internet and Social Media have made us more like the old sinks that had separate taps for hot and cold water. One had to fill the basin from both to get water at the desired temperature. Nobody has the patience for that. The Vols lose to Missouri in that fashion, and fans declare in their virtual public squares that the entire team showed no grit, they’re just going through their paces to get a free ride through college and move on with their lives. That’s not true. The people posting this know it’s not true. They post it anyway. For them, it’s full blast hot or cold water. Nobody fills the basin anymore. It’s too much for them to bother with…

Half of y’all on here would have been demanding we fire Johnny Majors. Some of y’alls opinions shift way too fast. Butch Jones got more grace out of this fanbase in his first 3 years than Josh has. Growth is not always linear in College Football. Climb off the chair and put the rope away. Things are going to be ok
I was thinking about this very matter recently. Post-game call-in shows with folks like "Stat Man", Cosby Cattleman, & other characters could be downright brutal; this was well before the social media surge.

I have news for you - as a student here in the early '80's I remember a whole lot of people calling for Majors' head given the mediocre records with a ton of talent until the mid '80's. I can recall many saying that the '82 Bama win bought him a couple more years.

Fan irrationality isn't a recent thing, nor is it exclusive to UT, but social media has made it like a stadium sized sound system as compared to the transistor radio it was back then.

How long did it take Johnny to win 10 games at Tennessee? Johnny is my favorite Tennessee coach of all time but he had his ups and downs. Especially early on

Majors first six years here - 4-7, 5-5-1, 7-5, 5-6, 8-4 (w/ bowl win), 6-5-1. And that was with a whole lot of talent. He would have been run out on a rail by year 3-4 these days, and as I said, many felt the '82 Bama win saved his job.

imagine comparing heupel to Johnny majors

Heupel first three seasons - 25-12 with three bowls and a top 6 finish, that off inheriting a dumpster fire of a program.

Majors first three seasons - 16-17-1, with one bowl loss, coming off winning a natty with Pitt.

I just told you a period where it did. From 1992 until 2001, only 2 East teams appeared in the SECCG...UF and Tennessee. From 2015 until the present, only 2 East teams have appeared in the SECCG...UGA and UF.

Be honest with yourself; if it was Tennessee participating in the dominating, would you say it is a boring product?
