Canada's Truck Convoy to Protest Mandate

The conversation about the negative economic impact of the BLM protests and compared to the truckers' protest.
Try to keep up.

The truckers' protest has been far more damaging to the economy....but who really cares about lost wages, right?

you haven't demonstrated that -

damages alone from BLM were estimated at $2B and that doesn't include lost wages or lost sales.

Trucker blockade at U.S.-Canada border causes over $1B in losses daily
The anti-COVID mandate protesters blocking several U.S.-Canada border crossings are set to take a tremendous economic toll on both countries, with more than a billion dollars in losses each day the blockade continues.
Workers in Michigan could lose up to $51 million in wages this week because of trucker protest, group estimates | CNN Business
Workers in the Michigan auto industry could lose up to $51 million in wages this week, due to the trucker protest at the US-Canada border, according to Anderson Economic Group.
Here's how much the 'Freedom Convoy' has cost the US and Canada
The auto industry alone is facing losses as high as $988 million because of the blockades.
Freedom Convoy’ disruptions cost auto industry $300 million, study says
The trucker protests against vaccine mandates that have blocked key trade crossings between Canada and the United States have prompted losses of nearly $300 million in wages and production in the automotive industry.

Did you even read your links? A whole bunch of “coulds” and “will ifs” closest real number was in the Fortune link and that was $360 million.

Just stating the facts.
The truckers are hurting the economy far more than BLM protests ever did.
But if you're good with that, so be it. Maybe the billions in losses they have caused are worth it.

Maybe ask the overreaching wannabe dictators if it was worth it. The truckers showed they also hold some power. Blm is nothing more than race baiting, looting, rioting, vandalizing, etc that costs others their livelihoods. The truckers risked their own.

More than 1 billion per day.........how long has it been going on?

billion a day?

the links you posted were about border crossing which have been cleared

of course you haven't addressed the lost wages for all the employees whose businesses were not just inconvenienced for a week but destroyed. what about the lost revenue for all those businesses? GM down for a week; these are done forever.

GM didn't lose revenue, it was delayed by a week. Most of the employees will get overtime and regain those lost wages. The victims of businesses burned to the ground and trading areas being turned into war zones don't get that luxury

Canadian Banks Prepared To Make Un-Persons of Protesters, at Government Demand

The government's new directive, called the "emergency economic measures order," goes beyond asking banks to simply stop transferring funds to protest organizers. The government wants banks to stop doing business with some people altogether.

The order says that banks and other financial entities (like credit unions, co-ops, loan companies, trusts and cryptocurrency platforms) must stop "providing any financial or related services" to people associated with the protests — a move that will result in frozen accounts, stranded money and cancelled credit cards…

These financial institutions can't handle cash, issue a loan, extend a mortgage or more generally facilitate "any transaction" of a "designated person" while the Emergencies Act is in place.

Jesus - the case for Crypto just got a major boost

Not sure of your beliefs, but it is Biblical.

Per Luther's billion a day

"It's over a billion dollars a day [in goods and services] that goes across the Canadian border," Arthur Wheaton, the director of labor studies at Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations, told Newsweek.

1. the entire border was not shut down
2. the duration of some major crossings was about a week
3. those goods still cross the border - just a week later. Because goods are physical this is not lost but merely delayed revenue. The revenue from those goods is not lost.

They might be able to get away with a lot of oppressive actions, but if they include taking pets that will turn everyone against them.
It’ll only turn the people who are already against them even more against them.

The people who have defended their actions thus far will only say “you take risks when you protest” like they have been.

Idk. There are animal lovers all across the political spectrum. You start euthanizing pets and you’re gonna lose support.

Of course I read the links....kind of.
What if the number is:
One billion?
Three billion?
Five billion?
Ten billion?
One hundred billion?

At what point would the costs outweigh the benefit? Ever?

At what point did the costs of the BLM protests outweigh the benefit? Ever?

If they have info on crypto wallets, does that mean they know everyone’s crypto info?

I was not defending the trucker protests - particularly the border blockades. I was pointing that they have not resorted to the violence that we saw repeated (daily in some cases like Portland) of the BLM protests.

The latter had significant (and ongoing) economic consequences in addition to the death and destruction

The violence was reprehensible.
I have said multiple times form the beginning that I believe any one who used the protests as cover to riot should be arrested, prosecuted, and punished.
