just looks like a typical day in thug land. good thing about thug life is that it isn't gender biased.

:hi:I watched the game last night, the incident happened so quickly but what I saw was --

1. Candace Parker and Detroit's Cheryl Ford had to be separated after Ford Fouled Parker. (Ford hit Parker in the mouth, you can clearly see Parker bringing her jersey up to her lip which appeared to be cut).

2. On the next possession Parker got tangled up with Detroit's Pienette Pierson and fell to the ground. As Parker was getting up, Pierson intentionally ran into Parker, setting off the melee. (After the free throw, Pierson turned to her right, started moving forward and slammed into Parker. Parker started stumbling and fell to the floor. Pierson continued to come at Parker after Parker was down and Pierson just ran over Parker while Parker was still on the floor.)

3. Parker threw a punch at Pierson before being tackled by Detroit's Deanna Nolan. Players and teams joined in, and Mahorn knocked Lisa Leslie to the court at one point. (Sounds to me like Parker was just defending herself to me. Pierson was wrong to just run over Parker like she did. Mahorn did pushed Leslie, maybe he didn't intend to but he did.)

I know women's sports has always been able to hold it's head high because the awful fights and displays of immaturity we see in men's sports didn't happen in women's sports but it happened last night. I know emotions were running high since L.A. had lost 4 games. I watched Candace Parker the past 3 years while she played at Tennessee. I've never seen her react this way before. I'm not saying she's right or wrong. There comes a time when a person must defend themselves. I think Candace was in that position last night. I hope Candace can find a way through this so she can continue to play the outstanding basketball she plays. I think Candace is one of the best if not the best female basketball player in the WNBA.

You understand that these immature men's sports are the only thing keeping the WNBA and women's college basketball afloat.

I didn't say "immature men's sports" I said the immature conduct. I've seen the men throw chairs and spit on referees. As I already said, I think Parker was defending herself last night, it's not the same as throwing chairs and spitting.

Standing up for herself? Maybe. Defending herself? Are you crazy? It was over, Candace ran her down, you can hardly call that defending yourself.

Not that I care about the WNBA in the least, but...

You do realize Candace was the one in the purple jersey.

Unbelievable. I hate to say this but something like this might actually get more viewers to the television. This may be the first time something like this has happened in the WNBA. I wonder how many games Parker and the other girl will be suspended? There is only like 30 games in a season so it will be interesting to see what the league does.

They won't be suspended for more than a game. Candace has single-handedly doubled the WNBA ratings and attendance.

I went back and looked at it again. I had the two mixed up. I stand corrected. Thanks OW.:hi:

It amazes me how everybody gets all high and mighty about a fight! Fights happen! We've all been in them. Going around starting fights is trashy and players should know to keep their cool to set a good example for the kids. However, not defending yourself sets just as bad of an example. People are going to challenge you in life and kids need to learn the right time and the right way to stand up for yourself. Candace was obviously being targeted by Detroit. Being the best female player in the world she will have to get used to it and understand that people will try to goad her into fighting so that she won't beat them on the court. However, last night was a statement that she won't be pushed around and I'm proud of her for it. All the people saying how trashy she was for fighting need to join the real world. Rick Mahorn and Pierson were the one's acting trashy. Pierson's reaction to getting tangled up obviously showed the frustration Candace causes opponents.

Women's college basketball does not need men's basketball to stay afloat.

Most of the womens teams out there do. Our Lady Vols can stand on their own but that is not the norm for womens bball across the board.

Candace was jerked on & pulled & just reacted to the other chick spazzing out on her. Candace was just defending herself & stopped when the other chick jumped on her. It took 2 team mates from Detroit to hold back the psyco chick from Candace & one hurt her ACL...that stinks for her. Candace did right. The other one was persuing a fight & should be punished more than Candace is, but CP will get in a little bit of trouble too.

I was watching the game last night when this happened & all the replays of the melee. My opinion...Parker got stuck with what Lisa Leslie got away with. She was the one who I saw in the ruck throw one of her notorious elbow shots at the Detroit assistant coach.

Parker wasn't innocent in her actions but my hope is that she hasn't allowed LL & LA to corrupt her Lady Vol spirit. They have been on a big 4th quarter slide into losses & were just about to do it again in Detroit.

Their pre-season brag about having the first WNBA undefeated season went down the tubes as they stand at 14-10. I'm sure that's pretty hard for some of them to swallow.

how many womens basketball teams operate in the black?

All of them need the football program to stay alive.

We can agree to agree on this one. I cannot imagine based on any true accounting that there is any women's basketball team, pro or college, that makes money.

close. I believe UT and UConn actually make money. UNC might now. The amounts those squads make is tiny and totally dwarfed by the losses across the rest of the Womens money sumps.

Including their fair share of overhead for building and maintaining training and playing facilities? I could see revenues from television and ticket sales and merchandising paying salaries and schollys for the people directly involved in women's bball. But if you include a share of what it takes to run the brick and mortar part of it, I have my doubts.

no debate there. I don't know how they account. They don't make enough money to pretend that they could stand alone.
