Candace Parker left off team USA for Rio olympics

All the UCONN fans who defend Geno are missing the point. He admitted he has more influence than you are willing to acknowledge. He also admitted he told USA basketball that he wouldn't coach the team, unless Taurasi and Bird were on it. Parker is arguably one of the top 3 players in the world, she should be on our Olympic team. Period! The committee has not and will not address it beyond the standard BS.

Many LV fans made up their minds about Geno when, instead of genuflecting to pat, he treated her like an opponent to be beaten. His job isn't to be well-liked, it's to be respected and to win. Outside of volnation he has accomplished both.

And there is a sizable group that see Parker as a prima donna who is more concerned about herself than her team. Posting a video of her dunking at UConn (in 2007?) on Instagram the other day wasn't the classiest of acts. More like what a spoiled child would do. Some say that her me-first attitude has a lot to do with why she hasn't led her team to a title since 2008.

Now I never met her and I don't form opinions based on hearsay.
Here comes another one, fresh from an encounter with Geno, racing to a Tennessee board, mouth open and drooling with a repulsive odor on the tip of his tongue...

The line between confidence and cockiness is infinitely small. I walk this same line. I never, myself, feel I am being arrogant, yet am taken that way...I often explain to my girls that the difference between aggressive and anger is, with "aggression" you want to control your opponent, with "anger" you want to hurt them.

The same can be said about Geno. If his intention was to hurt Pat and her program, he is being a bully and an arrogant bunghole. If his intention is personal and professionally to be the greatest coach ever, he is deserving of respect... The argument for the former is his cruelty in beating the hell out of an opponent instead just "convincingly" beating them. When you lap someone, then lap them again just to embarrass them, it is poor sportsmanship.

i know in AAU when we get 20 point leads, as long as we are in that position,I shackle my girls by : making them play no-hands defense.( they may not bring their hands past the shoulders for any reason. If they do, I sub them immediately. This forces them to move their feet to defend, thus, using a gained advantage to further teach)) or by not letting them take shots inside the arc, or by putting the PG in the paint and the C and PF at the elbows on the dreaded zone.

I don't do these things to embarrass the competition, i do these things to hand-cuff my girls so they have to perform with a handicap.

The decision not to include Candace Parker on the 2016 Olympic team seems to be a USA BB decision and not one that can be pinned solely on Geno Auriemma. It appears that USA BB did not like that Parker chose not to play in the 2010 world championships or the 2014 world championships, opting instead to have surgery and not miss any time playing overseas. The Olympics are obviously a more glamorous event but many players feel they need to play in the less desirable world championships in order to have a shot at making the Olympic team.

USA BB understands the need for the players to maximize their earnings by not missing time overseas where they make the bulk of their money. But that's an issue for all of the players, including those who've chosen to play in the world championships. Well, it seems that some players complained to USA BB about Parker getting special treatment. I would guess that USA BB already didn't like that Parker passed on the worlds and when other players complained they didn't feel right about putting her on the Olympic team again in 2016 (she made the team in 2012).

You can't be serious. So now, it's that "Oh, the other players were complaining about her!" Seriously. So USA Basketball has this Problem with Candace - they're treating her as more special than the others. Did she not clear her surgeries with USA Basketball? Then haven't they known all along they were going to cut her because of all the complaints? What a lousy thing, then to sit back and allow her to waste her time working with the team, helping Stewart along (her words), do promos for the team, after working hard to show up healthy. What a prima donna. I sure hope when Candace was working with "Stewie", that "Stewie" didn't get any of that on her. How awful for her if she turns out to be that kind of player who saves the big game after dislocating her shoulder. Who needs that on your team?

"some players complained to USA BB", give me a break.

You are absolutely right. But do you think for one minute that the US team couldn't win the gold without Parker, or any other player for that matter?

They would. We would win with an entirely different team. If USA Basketball wanted to rotate players as well as coaches, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But they're not just rotating players. There are obviously some "preferred" players who get to keep playing so what they are doing simply smacks of unfairness. The unfairness this year happens to be with a Lady Vol so Lady Vols fans are up in arms. If the committee had left off Taurasi or Moore, UConn fans would be rightly upset.

Is this junior high? Do you really need to attack me with that sort of insult? Say what you like about my posts but keep it about them. You don't know me. I don't know you.

USAB rewards loyalty. Players who show up every year to support USA basketball, like Stewart has done since before she entered high school. Players who are there for the world's over those who just show up for the Olympics. Like Catchings for example. Now sure, there is favoritism but that's the way the world often works. Parker has a right to be disappointed and also maybe angry. But her Instagram post reminds me of something a spoiled child does the first time they don't get what they want. It's beyond childish.

JMO.

You don't want people blaming Geno yet here you are doing the same thing to Parker GTFOH. you keep rotating from forum to forum whining and crying about people blaming Geno and you've been attempting to get people to shift the blame to Parker and put everything on her instead. you're all over the place smearing her name the way you claim others are doing to him. you're now upset that some people would actually like for someone else to get a chance to coach the national team.

We can quibble about how much Geno was directly involved in leaving her off the team. But even UConn fans can't argue that if Geno wanted her on the team, she would be on the team. That's the point.

I also have no doubt if she was a UConn alum she wouldn't have been left off the team in the first place. And in this hypothetical even if she was left off Geno would have quickly made sure that mistake was corrected. Candace, with years of service to USA basketball, has earned that same respect no matter where she played....

But one of the jobs of a columnist is to question things, and state opinions. Journalists usually do not know *everything* that goes into...

Michelle retracting and more will come out.

In the end, everybody who is on the Olympic WBB team is a terrific player. I respect the coaching staff and the decision-makers ...

Not sure if USA WBB will give any specifics on why Candace Parker was not chosen for Olympic roster, but will ask on teleconference.

Will she share what she found out?

Well you didn't come back and post a link about your comments of the other day, did you? Without a link those comments were hearsay then weren't they? Without that link, they are hearsay now.

You may not realize it but you seem to have a lot of opinions based on hearsay. You are entitled to them

Until the committee comes up with a better answer than they have so far, everyone else is commenting based on hearsay, too.

The posting of that video by Candace points up, I think the fact that Candace is hurt by this decision. That video also points up that it is her opinion as to why she was left off..... that is Geno.

I'm surprised she did post that video. An event in 2007 is not required to justify who she is and what she brings to basketball. But like you, she is entitled to her opinions, and to post as she likes on the web

Please come back with some links, Linkster After all Candace poster her evidence, that video.

I'm sorry but someone having surgery should not be a reason USAB considers them disloyal. That's just being petty. And Catchings skipped 2014 too.

If it had been an Olympic year the surgery would have been scheduled differently.

And Catchings value is exponentially greater than her massive talent. There's a huge difference between a star and a leader.

Did you read a quote from Candace saying that or is that just your own speculation?

There is no way in hell that the mods of the boneyard would allow one of us to stay on their site with this kind of speculation and out right garbage about their players......

Everyone stop replying to these trolls and they will go away......

Swish appeal has a nice discussion of this omission and why the standard, non-Geno explanations make no sense.

The fact is that of 9 or 10 players from the last Olympic team are on the 2016 roster. Of those players, Parker is the one you leave out? I guess I am okay with Uconners coming on to offer alternative BS explanations but when they include disparaging the character of the player who has been wronged, well that sucks and such posters suck big time.
