Who do folks think are most to least likely to transfer this off-season?

For sure
DJ Jefferson- walk ons getting minutes over him. Zero reason he would stay.

Possible
Freddie- hope he'll be back up next year and continue to develop. But let's be honest wouldn't be surprised if he's frustrated with his minutes and another school offers him starter minutes.

Unlikely but other teams will call
Carr- seems to take well to Barnes coaching and bet Barnes realizes he could be possibly Jordan Mccrae jr with more time in weight room.
Phillips- he was on board with possibly red-shirting this season so seems to be ok with long term development track
Estrella- has most potential of freshmen, seems most engaged with team during games, but also behind Aidoo and Awaka especially if Aidoo comes back
Mashack- I would hate it and hope he stays. He has developed really well under Barnes and teams best defender plus should be in line for more minutes next year. Have to wonder though if Barnes takes another transfer as starter does he go somewhere else his last season.

Player hangs up when other teams call
ZZ- going to be senior leader and conductor of the team next year
Awaka- seems to be thriving in development and fits really well culture wise
Aidoo- no reason to transfer as he'll be starting center again if he comes back
Gainey- 100% stays and could be one of the primary shooters next year. No way he leaves unless his dad takes head coaching job

Aidoo was allegedly contacted by UNC and Duke last offseason. Tennessee will have to pay up to keep him, especially with what all we are losing to graduation.
Santi and JJJ & Knecht is all we are really losing and Knecht being the most valuable. Surely Barnes can recruit transfers 2 players with better upside than Santi and JJJ.

Other teams can call just would be surprised if Aidoo took them seriously short of Spyre only promising a Toyota Prius if he stays

What do you mean, that's all we are really losing?

That's 3 starters, your leading scorer and 3 of the top 6, two of your best defenders, and 85 of your 200 total minutes. It's also 15 total years of experience between 3 players.

I'm not saying they aren't replaceable, but just grabbing guys from the portal isn't a fix-all solution. Just ask Arkansas.

Well you listed him as a player who won't even listen, and I'm just saying that he's already listened. And he won't ever be more valuable to Tennessee than he will be this offseason considering we lose 3 starters, and he'd be the 4th. Financially speaking, Tennessee/Spyre will have to offer more than they've ever offered him to keep him, IMO. And if Aidoo has people in his corner with his best interests in mind, they are telling him that.

Yeah totally fair. Seemed like he listened last year and dabbled with other teams. Unless he goes to NBA dont see why he would again take other teams calls given he would be one of the focal points of the team next year. Assuming he's paid what he's worth. That's why thought he'd probably hang up this year if anyone called.

I think the temptation to leave might be influenced by the uncertainty of what our team has next year. We return a lot of bodies, but not a lot of experience. ZZ, Mashack, Gainey, and Awaka return, but all are backups except ZZ. Estrella, Dilione, Carr, Phillips, all lack experience. Boswell is our only incoming freshman as of now, and isn't an immediate impact guy, most likely. Would the lure of replacing Armando Bacot at UNC (Aidoo's from North Carolina) and getting paid be enticing?

Even if we are able to jump into the portal and grab a scoring wing and maybe add another shooter, that may come after Aidoo has already made his choice. Just a lot of moving parts that make me think that at worst, he's not a stone-cold lock to return. We will have to keep him.

I think Dillone will be here next season and be the backup point guard while Gainey will probably replace Vescovi at the shooting guard position.

Fwiw Aidoo loves it here and playing for Barnes, I have a hard time seeing him go to another college, NBA is a possibility though. This past offseason he was getting zero NIL, schools came calling and offering money, he asked/took much less from Spyre than what other schools were offering up, he just wanted something though and rightfully so.

When does the portal open for bball transfers?

I think the point being made is TN should have the pieces to be a good team if we can find a couple of players in the portal. However, folks underestimate the intangibles Santi and JJJ bring to the floor which is a primary reason this is our best chance to make the final four. If not now, when?

I've seen conflicting reports. I've seen the Monday after Selection Sunday, which would be March 18th, and I've seen 7 days after Selection Sunday, which would be March 24th. In either case, it's open for 45 days after whichever date is correct.

Basketball is not yet like football in NIL/Portal....we have yet to see large numbers of established players at established schools transfer. Most of what's happening is guys not getting minutes transferring down and guys at smaller programs transferring up.
Not saying it does not happen we had one with ORN... who weirdly transferred down (Michigan is a dumpster fire and he's putting up good numbers on a terrible team.) UT is a top 10 team worst case... we are not worried about losing the players we want.

Well, it seems like you're really making my point more than the OP's, but I agree.

I just don't think you flippantly dismiss the loss of 3 players just because you might return 10 others when the players you lose have 15 years of college basketball experience and the players provide the points, minutes and leadership those three do.

I detailed it in another post, but at best, you return 5 guys who averaged 10+ minutes per game. The other four have only combined for 294 minutes all season and are all freshmen, and then you bring in a freshman who isn't expected to be an immediate contributor. Just not a lot of experience outside of what would possibly be your starting 5 (Zeigler, Gainey, Mashack, Awaka, Aidoo). You'd really need to add some experienced scoring punch to that group, I think.
