Candidates most likely to transfer this off-season

Unless Bacot is transferring here, Aidoo ain't going nowhere. Neither are Carr, Mashack or Estrella. I look for Estrella to play alongside Aidoo at 4/5. ZZ, Mashack, Gainey, Carr and Dillione should be Manning the perimeter. Hopefully Phillips will stick around and/or a transfer post

Well you listed him as a player who won't even listen, and I'm just saying that he's already listened. And he won't ever be more valuable to Tennessee than he will be this offseason considering we lose 3 starters, and he'd be the 4th. Financially speaking, Tennessee/Spyre will have to offer more than they've ever offered him to keep him, IMO. And if Aidoo has people in his corner with his best interests in mind, they are telling him that.
My 2 cents.

If spyre can't offer enough to keep Aidoo at TN then F*** em!

I'm afraid Awaka may leave to be the main starter elsewhere as I don't see Aidoo leaving. Why would he with all the progress he has seen in his development under Barnes?

I think Dilione is for sure gone. He had a year to condition with the program, yet still looks a tad slow imo. I also get the impression he thinks he is deserving of more playing time and will go elsewhere to see if that's the case.

Mashack - I think he is a loyal, hardworking guy who is very valuable defensively. But for his well being he may need to go to a program he can play a substabtial offensive role. You only get to be in this position at college once. He has proven to be an elite defensive player. Its time he can go somewhere where he is one of the top 2 or 3 options on the floor offensively. Unfortunately here, he is usually option 4 or 5 and we are deep enough to rotate him out before he can get in any offensive rythm. I would love for him to stay, but could very well see him making a tough decision to go.

This reads very much like you aren’t a Vol fan lol…you don’t think Mashack is staring at a likely starting spot and 25+mpg next year?

He will likely be a starter here next year

Who do folks think are most to least likely to transfer this off-season?

For sure
DJ Jefferson- walk ons getting minutes over him. Zero reason he would stay.

If DJ leaves it will be mutual. I’m in the minority here, but I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion. He made a mess with school, and hasn’t gotten a minute. That said, he’s the first guy up to encourage a teammate. He’s not in the basketball doghouse. If he goes, it’ll likely be arranged and to a friendly spot as others have suggested.
Possible
Freddie- hope he'll be back up next year and continue to develop. But let's be honest wouldn't be surprised if he's frustrated with his minutes and another school offers him starter minutes.

When he’s been healthy, he’s getting the minutes he’s earned and has a future if he stays. Not impossible that he’ll be lured away, but he’s happy and developing. Hes the highest risk to go behind DJ, but I’m an optimist and he and his family love Barnes.
Unlikely but other teams will call
Carr- seems to take well to Barnes coaching and bet Barnes realizes he could be possibly Jordan Mccrae jr with more time in weight room.
Phillips- he was on board with possibly red-shirting this season so seems to be ok with long term development track
Estrella- has most potential of freshmen, seems most engaged with team during games, but also behind Aidoo and Awaka especially if Aidoo comes back

These young swing bigs are all promising, but it will be crowded. Estrella and Cade are big believers in the coaching they get, but they’ll get tempted. I’d bet on them staying.

Carr gets a lot of Barnes razzing, but also seems to see his future here. He’s been in the gym late and has been improving quickly. Sure seems happy.
Mashack- I would hate it and hope he stays. He has developed really well under Barnes and teams best defender plus should be in line for more minutes next year. Have to wonder though if Barnes takes another transfer as starter does he go somewhere else his last season.

Mashack is more valuable staying than going. Hes the perfect system fit and will move to a much bigger role. Can’t imagine why he’d leave.
Player hangs up when other teams call
ZZ- going to be senior leader and conductor of the team next year

This is ZZ’s team. It would take a seismic event for him to leave.
Awaka- seems to be thriving in development and fits really well culture wise

He’s not going to get rich leaving and is really doing well here. He doesn’t have the height to attract a big offer elsewhere.
Aidoo- no reason to transfer as he'll be starting center again if he comes back

Aidoo listened last year, and does have professional counsel. He has a pro set of tools. If anyone is going to be lured sideways or up, it’s him. That said, he loves the coaches. He’s the happiest he’s been during his time here. He’ll have the biggest target on his back , but I think he’ll stay.
Gainey- 100% stays and could be one of the primary shooters next year. No way he leaves unless his dad takes head coaching job
Gainey has had some odd stretches with chemistry and his playing. As of today, I’d say he fits and will stay, but I would’ve listed him as most likely to go three weeks ago.

I hope he stays, but Mashack has already stuck with this program in hopes of earning more playing time with improved offense. Yet, he was still offensively recruited over with transfers and is still struggling to find a consistebt role he flourishes on offense. The same could happen again next season. Our team simply has too much depth.

I suppose with Santi and JJJ leaving there may be a bigger role. But Mashack would have to feel really confident that he could score from the perimter. Also, I think Carr will earn himself alot of those minutes.

I watched an interview with ZZ and Tobe Awaka on Vols Club Confidential, and the chemistry these two have based on both being from NYC is unparalleled. I very highly doubt Awaka leaves TN.

I feel like the freshmen will stick it out for another year to be honest. I was thinking Freddie might leave, but I think he will have a big role next year unless Barnes recruits over him in the portal. & I have a hard time believing they would let Aidoo or Awaka walk, but it’s possible. Wouldn’t be shock if we lose somebody key to the portal though, has happened the past few years.

Appreciate insight. It's definitely a tough balancing act in this day and age of unlimited transfers, keeping everyone happy, plus bringing in new transfers to keep up the talent of the team.

Well, it seems like you're really making my point more than the OP's, but I agree.

I just don't think you flippantly dismiss the loss of 3 players just because you might return 10 others when the players you lose have 15 years of college basketball experience and the players provide the points, minutes and leadership those three do.

I detailed it in another post, but at best, you return 5 guys who averaged 10+ minutes per game. The other four have only combined for 294 minutes all season and are all freshmen, and then you bring in a freshman who isn't expected to be an immediate contributor. Just not a lot of experience outside of what would possibly be your starting 5 (Zeigler, Gainey, Mashack, Awaka, Aidoo). You'd really need to add some experienced scoring punch to that group, I think.
Cam Carr might be that X factor offensively pending his progress off season. Between Carr, Dilione & Estrella someone has to have that light bulb moment where they take it to that next level in their respective games.

Could be. He isn't afraid, that's for sure.

It looks like Knecht is going through a slump as his shooting has been off recently.

The rest of his game suffers when he isn’t hitting his shots. Usually he drives to the rim so hopefully he will come along tonight.
