Candidates most likely to transfer this off-season

Well you listed him as a player who won't even listen, and I'm just saying that he's already listened. And he won't ever be more valuable to Tennessee than he will be this offseason considering we lose 3 starters, and he'd be the 4th. Financially speaking, Tennessee/Spyre will have to offer more than they've ever offered him to keep him, IMO. And if Aidoo has people in his corner with his best interests in mind, they are telling him that.
Agree that Aidoo is in a good negotiating position. But look at the progress he has made from last year to this year - his current situation is working for him. Another year of development like that will be worth big money. Not saying he should sell himself short but he should stay if Spyre can be somewhat competitive.

I watched an interview with ZZ and Tobe Awaka on Vols Club Confidential, and the chemistry these two have based on both being from NYC is unparalleled. I very highly doubt Awaka leaves TN.

Thanks for posting…those guys are fun to watch. Very good at expressing themselves and comfortable in an interview setting. Awaka said Barnes gave him a high five after the KY dust up!

I, of course, agree he should stay. But if we fall short in the NCAAT, again, and a team better equipped to make a deep run in 2025, perhaps in his own backyard, comes calling and is willing to pay more, I can see him being intrigued.

Next year SENIORS and possible position -
1: ZZ
1/2: Gainey
1/2/3?: Mashack
4: ???
5: Aidoo
——————
Next year JUNIORS and possible position -
1: ??
2:??
3??
4/5: Awaka
5: ???
——————
Next year SOPHOMORES and possible position
1: Dilione
1/2: Carr
2/3: Jefferson?
4: Phillips
4/5: Estrella
——————
Incoming FRESHMAN and possible position
2/3: Boswell ?

CONCLUSION:
Dilione hasn’t shown he can be a good enough PG/backup to ZZ. That goes to Gainey/Mashack. He’s most likely to leave in this scenario and we end up with a transfer who’s a junior (Awaka’s class)
I don’t really know position Jefferson would play but if it’s the 2/3 and we get the felling we don’t redshirt Boswell, he’s gone.

Referring to first half as he struggled, had turnovers and Barnes got on him regarding defensive side of ball.

But i later posted I was Wrong. Hence, I’m an arm chair QB.
Maybe next time let a full game, or few games play out before declaring a slump.

Aidoo can be a first round draft pick in the 2025 draft if he sticks at UT for his senior season and refines his three point shot and learns how to play without fouling a lot.

I’ve heard rumors of NC and Kansas possibilities for Aidoo next year. It’s a possibility that he leaves. Not sure if UT matches any offer that he may get. There is a limit to what he will make in his career and the NBA is no guarantee. College basketball is a business now. He will have to make a business decision.

Maybe so, but you could argue that point at a lot of other schools, too, though. Do his chances of being a 1st-rounder significantly decrease at UNC or Duke?

I feel like Mashack will replace JJJ pretty well. Get about 10pts a game and be our lock down defender. He flashed offensively at the end of last season when ZZ went down. He has that ability.

Gainey replaces Santi. I can see us playing a lot of Aidoo/Awaka lineups next year like we did to Mizzou. Estrella/Phillips rotating in consistently. So I don't think they leave this year. Freddie backs up ZZ for a year and replaces him in 2026. Carr more or less the 6th man next season. DJ is the wild card here. If he gets his stuff figured out does he jump anyone in the lineup? What role? Idk. But for a guy that's firmly benched it's cool to see he looks 100% bought-in on the sidelines, in warm-ups, etc. Seems to be doing everything right on the court.

He was courted last year by those schools, he opted to stay here (and get compensated) and has now developed into one of the better big men in the conference and is starting to appear on draft boards. It wouldn’t make a ton of sense to depart to a new system and staff that has no commitment to you in what will be your “contract” year.

DJ plays above the rim, no missed bunnies
He plays downhill and creates his own shot driving the lane
3 point assassin
Sports center top 10/play of the day type finishes
I don’t know about his defense but Coach Barnes put him in early in the Bahamas, so he must have defensive game too.
I am not sure but I think he has a 7’ or better wingspan like Carr

Mashack will play mostly the 3 not the 4 where JJJ has been this season.
I don’t think Freddie comes back because he seems like a shoot first PG w/ sloppy ball handling and not a pass first PG who can control the game.
IMO, Next year rotating roster will look like this IF Jefferson stays:
ZZ / transfer
Gainey / Carr/ Boswell
Mashack/Jefferson/Boswell
Awaka/ Phillips/Estrella
Aidoo /Estrella /transfer?

That's the one hope I'm holding onto. My concern is whether he could see a clearer title path at a UNC or Duke and potentially getting paid more by either of those schools.

As you said, his clearest path to the most playing time and staff investment is at Tennessee, but unfortunately those aren't the only considerations, I'd imagine.

In his 3 years on Rocky Top he’s been on a Top 5 Tennessee team all 3 years, I doubt he’ll think his chances are much better anywhere else.

Aidoo will either get overpayed or be gone. Just my two cents.
He will be at Tennessee next year. He and his family love the development pluses with Barnes. They also see that the big picture brings bigger dollars in the future. Color me shocked if he’s not in Tennessee orange next year.

And maybe his chances won't be. I'm not remotely suggesting he's looking for a reason to leave. I just think if he gets the right offer from the right team that he may at least consider it given he already gave it some thought a year ago.

I would think Tennessee could make a competitive offer.
