Candle-light vigil tonight for Vandy fans.

CSS was still on his jock last night during their SEC coverage. He's a good coach... Just going to take time to do what he's going to do... etc...

Keep him. No better way to get UT fired up for the perennial beatdown.

To be fair: no one should be judging a coach of any kind after 15 games unless they've won 2 or less of those. It takes time to build up a program. However, him being crowned as the next big thing in coaching was a bit hasty after a 6-7 season, no?

It is pretty funny to watch them talk about how NC State was a joke of an opponent and Northwestern is a tougher team than them.

VandyMania is by far my favorite message board to read for meltdowns and sheer lunacy. A lot of them seem completely convinced that VU is better than UT.

I also like how they always resort to using the tired "superior academics" argument when half of the posters can't even spell or punctuate sentences correctly.

If you go to Vandymania, some are actually complaining their schedule is too hard.

Pathetic.

They drew Auburn and Ole Miss from the West and OOC they play Presbyterian, Massachusetts, Northwestern and Wake Forest. They also get to play Kentucky. An average team could go 7-0 against those teams.

The sad part... some of them still believe James Franklin is the best coach they've ever had and that he'll have them playing in the SEC championship in a few years. Their fans are friggin delusional.

I don't think Vandy is too good. I think they caught South Carolina at a good time....first game on the road....and in James Franklin's words "it was their superbowl"... You only score 13 points in your superbowl? get real.

I'm grateful for vandy & kentucky tho.... gives us some assured sec east wins!! This division is waaaaaayyyyyy tougher than everyone gives credit for 4 ranked teams plus mizzou. I think as a whole it's tougher than the west

This year it is but that hasn't been the case the past few years. With Tennessee and Florida down, that left Georgia and South Carolina. During that time, Alabama won 2 championships, Auburn won a championship, LSU played in a championship, Arkansas won double digit games back to back years. With Auburn and Arkansas not looking very good, the East appears to have more quality teams this year. Just like the good ol' days!

The West has the two best teams in the conference, but the East has by far the more competitive division.

The only way they play in the SEC championship is if all other teams secede from the conference just to escape their coach's stench.

They should be begging for Bobby Johnson to come back.

I think Johnson knew 7-6 and a Music City Bowl was the best it was ever going to get at Vandy, and decided he'd had enough. If he had plans to coach at a better job, he should have jumped ship after 2008, though I think his star dimmed after starting 5-0 and then going 2-6 to finish the season. The next season they were back to SOV, and then he left before the 2010 season started.

I think the chances are much greater the same type path happens to Franklin, in fact we're probably watching it happen now. He had his bowl season last year and now he's staring at a very possible 2-10 season. I'll give him one more crappy year after this one and he'll be done and his time for being the "rising star coach" will be over.

Laugh at Vandy fan(s) outraged that UT is ranked at Vandymania.

I'd encourage you to go post on their board, but the idiots that run that place pretty much only allow a handful of pro-Vandy morons to post there.

Their moderator is a moron named Don Yates. He is, without question, the biggest limp wristed idiot at any SEC forum. If you don't kiss their ass, you get banned.

That place has the most delusional morons I've ever seen. Just watching them trying to convince themselves that they could actually win the SEC this year and that they were better than UT and other programs was some pretty good comedy. They're garbage. They'll always be garbage.

Yep. I used to post there back about 8 years ago or so when it was just an open forum, and found myself banned after about 3 weeks. Then about 2-3 years ago I could go back but my posts had to be approved, and I think I had maybe 1 post actually get posted. Now you have to be approved to post before even trying to post.

The few Vandy fans there are left are seriously some of the most hateful, hypocritical morons I've ever seen. When I posted, I tried to be respectful and get discussion going, and if you're a Vol fan they immediately attack you. Yates being the idiot he is would let them say whatever they wanted and when I was finally pushed the point of responding in kind, I was banned.

What I bolded, is spot on. I know a lot of Vandy fans, some delusional, some not, but that bunch is clearly the most immature, spiteful, jealous and hateful bunch I've ever had the displeasue to read. I don't know if I've ever encountered a more bitter and just plain miserable bunch of people in my entire life. They sound like a bunch of grumpy, miserable old men mad at the entire world and ready to go postal on anyone at any moment.

It must really suck to be a Candy fan over there. I guess being a Candy fan makes you that way. That's the only thing I can think of that would make them act that way.

Former Tennessean Columnist Joe Biddle said it best. "Ive seen it many times, a new coach comes in with bright ideas, new slogans and optimism for the future of Vanderbilt football. Then 4 or 5 years later, he will be sitting at a press conference with a deer in the headlights look on his face trying to explain what went wrong."

James Franklin is 2 or 3 years away from that press conference.

I know a few Vandy fans in "real life" and they're ok. But that group at Vandymania, wow. With the exception of a few of them, most of them are living in some weird bizarro world. They think there's some conspiracy to keep Vandy "down", some think they're too good to be in the SEC, but most spew pure hate and spite then turn around and complain about how bad other SEC fanbases are.
