The mentality that some folks have to win them all, all the time or fire the coach would have fired Bear Bryant at Alabama after having back-to-back seasons of 6-5 and 6-5-1.  He then  went on to win 9 SEC Championships in the next 11 seasons, while winning 88% of his games and 3 national championships.

Whew, seems like someone said the SEC might be at a different level than the Mountain West. I've should have remembered that!
