The Reds could take a big step towards securing the Central and send Cardinal fans like myself into meltdown mode if they could take 2 out of 3.

Reds are going to get Carp, Garcia, then Wainwright.

Reds using Leake, Cueto and Arroyo. Not sure yet, but we should see the debut of Jim Edmonds in a Reds uni tonight.

This is the biggest series for the Reds since 1999. That is a sad statement, but I believe it is true.

If Cardinal fans are going to panic about being three games back on August 11th, they are in need of serious counseling.

Most Cardinal fans are fairly annoyed this is even a race to begin with. This team should be playing about 7-10 games better than it is. Throw in a couple of embarassing blow out losses and that is the result.

The way this team has played on the road combined with the schedule the Reds have remaining equals meltdown.

Don't kid yourself about how good the Cardinals are. Their lineup consists of two players and once you get past Wainwright and Carpenter the pitching staff is nothing special.

There was a lot more expected of this team in April than how they have performed.

Then people did a really poor job of assessing that roster. They are still the best team in the Central, but they're nothing special. They'd be buried in either of the other divisions. They can thank God for the Cubs, Pirates, Brewers, and Astros.

As a die-hard Reds fan, I thank god for the Cubs, Pirates, Brewers and Astros on a daily basis. The Pirates' situation saddens me, though - too much history and tradition in that town to let this happen. They appear to be no closer to being competitive than they were 5 years ago, or 10 years ago, or 15 years ago.

On paper in April other than the Phillies and Dodgers who else in the NL would you have placed ahead of them? Maybe the Giants?

Not the Mets. They're a trainwreck even when healthy. But I will definitely give you the Rockies.

I hear you as far as stars go it's Albert and MH. But there are some other pretty good role players in the lineup and as far as pitching goes the Cardinals are 46-24 in games started by Carpenter, Garcia and Wainwright for the best mark by any three qualifying pitchers on one team in the majors.
This team has bombed in some easy win situations and they are also the worst fielding team I've seen Tony put on the field in a while, maybe ever. So I won't say they are anything special but I expect better play out of them than what we've been getting.

I did enjoy brandon phillip's little rant.

Pretty much summed up most Reds feelings concerning this year's Cards squad, especially Carpenter. His outbursts last night were totally uncalled for

Quoting Bernie Mislasz from the St. Louis Post Dispatch -

It's a good thing Carpenter didn't know about Phillips' woofing, or Phillips would be looking for a new rib cage today.

Of course, if I was 0-9 in my last 9 starts against a guy, I'd not like him either.

Again, Chris Carpenter proved that he is exactly what Brandon Phillips thinks he is. Rolen played peacemaker and Carpenter started it back up. To hell with that piece of ****
