I am not sure what to think about this concept. Outdoor basketball game? 4:00PM?

1. Weather: Yes, they have a backup plan. They will play in one of the hangars. I am not sure what the seating capacity will be in that hangar (7,000 on the deck). It could look like an empty gym. Right now, there is a 30% chance of rain in San Diego on Friday.

2. The Sun: sunset is 4:50pm on Friday. That means the sun will be low and glaring for the first thirty minutes of the game. This could be a serious disadvantage for one of the teams, depending on the orientation of the carrier and the court.

3. Wind.

4. Temperature: high of 64 degrees.

This seems like a great idea for an exhibition game and a terrible idea for a game that actually counts.

A company that I used to work for (SGA Production Staging) is handing the set up of the carrier. (Seating, staging for the court, etc.)

They sent me a link to their facebook page, but I cant view it here at work.

It's going to be streetball at its best. I wish they would hang chain nets for this game!!!

Which Aircraft Carrier is that?

Edit: Nevermind, it's the Carl Vinson.

I think it's a great idea. And it's better than playing in a high school gym in some caribbean country.

who's playing in this?

Michigan State -v- UNC

MSU AD Mark Hollis has been working on this for about 5 years. Marketing genius.

Word is that the rain that was predicted earlier this week is going to push back to Early Saturday morning, so they should get this in without rain issues.

I used to work for the staging and seating company (many moons ago). It is a very cool operation.

Wish I was there for this one.

If there is any cross wind I could see this easily being a dunk fest for points, I agree this game should not count given the intangibles.

It's supposed to rain on Saturday here, not Friday. They should be fine

Part of me wishes it wouldnt count also, because UNC is a beast right now. But first game, I will take my chances.

I wish they would hang some chain nets and make this just a true streetball game.

I remember watching games back home when I was in HS. Earvin "Magic" Johnson went to my high school. He would come back to town during the off season his first couple of years with the Lakers. Earvin, Jay Vincent, Kevin Willis, and a couple of HS guys, Sam Vincent, Craig Fields who is the brother of Bruce Fields (Cleveland Indians Hitting Coach) guys that were HS legends in Lansing MI,

They would all get together at an outdoor court in my neighborhood. And for a couple hours on a summer weekday, they would put on a freaking SHOW. Outdoor basketball at its best. It was full court, but the court was about half regulation size.

I was back there playing on the court with my kids last summer and the memories there are just incredible.

anyways, sorry, rambling again. . . .

ALSO: If yall have a service member that is either active duty or retired, you can send their name, rank, service to

@Spartan_Radio on twitter and they will read all of the names on air during the game.

You have to get the MSU feed for it to hear it, but you can do that over the internet.
