I agree with OP. Cool concept, would love to see it as an exhibition, but even with that sunny San Diego weather, there are still a number of uncontrollable elements that could pop up and influence the game in one team or an others favor.

Every other sport adjusts for the intangibles. Don't see what the big deal is with a basketball team having to do it for once. Golfer's, QBs, kickers, etc.. all have to adjust to wind. Now rain, is a different story.

It would not be a problem if every basketball team played every game exposed to the elements. The fact that these elements will play into UNC and MSU's RPI (MSU will most likely have to rely on a higher RPI come the end of the season) and not in any other teams is where I find fault.

(For what it's worth, I find domed football fields horrendous.)

Im with you completely. The problem with any moisture at all is that basketball courts and shoes are not made to handle that. Injuries would happen. No question.

The good news is that the weather sounds like it will cooperate! yay.

And yes, this is not the greatest MSU team at the moment, and they will possibly need strength of schedule to help them out at the end. But you will notice I said Possibly. They do have a TON of talent on the team, but last years personality issues really hurt them. This year they should gel fairly quick.

They will need luck to win this game. And sometimes i would rather be lucky than good.

Michigan State -v- UNC

MSU AD Mark Hollis has been working on this for about 5 years. Marketing genius.

Word is that the rain that was predicted earlier this week is going to push back to Early Saturday morning, so they should get this in without rain issues.

I used to work for the staging and seating company (many moons ago). It is a very cool operation.

Wish I was there for this one.

I'm a Tarheel fan, but I would like to say thanks to Hollis and those at MSU who made this happen. I hope the weather cooperates and that they get to play it on the deck afterall.

Sounds like the weather will indeed cooperate. game is at 4pm SD time, and rain looks like it will hold off til after 9pm.

This is a great event already, and I know that the game itself will be memorable no matter what the score. I just hope MSU can hold it close.

Good luck tonight, it is always cool when MSU takes on the big dogs. Hasnt worked in our favor enough times, but this is good stuff.

:good!::good!:

Both teams will have photo opps with tPOTUS today.

Tougher scheduling today that being at a final 4

Didnt sleep well last night, so much to think about.

Earvin, Greg Kelser, Mateen Cleaves, many former players showing up today.

Life changing experience.

super cool pics...most people who play basketball grow up playing outside.... it should work OK with a probable small glitch or 2

Yeah, things haven't exactly worked in MSU's favor with those big games lately, but you never know. Good luck to you as well!
