carter on Israel

I love when people talk about Israel "giving back" land that was essentially handed to them at the end of World War II.

That is beside the point. This particular area and it's land had been conquered and controlled by many different Semitic cultures throughout it's history, including the Jews. They have as much claim to it as the nomadic herders who lived there before Israel was established. Moreover they fought off attacks by multiple countries to keep that land and in return took more to prove a point. To the victor go the spoils as they say.

The land occupied by Israel now, once belonged to them. The Palestinian claims are like that of a car thief who has had your car for a month. "I've had it a month, that makes it mine."

Israel got back what was rightfully theirs.

You do realize early jews were a rather odd assortment of different cultures (Semitic). It has been contested, won and lost many times over. And more than that they are descended from most of the same blood lines. To say Israel has a more legitimate historical claim is just not true.

As far as a homeland for the Jews goes I think Europe was not really a good option for them at the time. Even though Germany was the hotbed for the hatred directed against them large parts of Europe were little better.

Germany is the only European nation with backbone. We should have given Europe to Germany, and split Russia between us.

Instead we lost half a million American lives, fighting for a bunch of ungrateful peasants.

We lost half a million American fighting for what was right. To call them ungrateful peasants is off base.

that's true, the people in the Normandy region are very appreciative of what happened there on a certain June 5th.

I know this to be fact as well.

Question for anyone who knows, do we do general upkeep on our military burials there (in Europe)?

i would have been cool with letting germany have france, those cheese eating surrender monkies have been nothing but a pest. I mean the catastrophe of katrina after all is said and done with was their fault...

I can't tell if this post is serious or not.

1. They are unashamedly ungrateful.

2. The Europeans are unarmed peasants.

The comment was off base how?

They were grateful that we removed the Nazi boot from their neck. To think that 50 and 60 years later we should expect them bow before us in submission is a little silly. Do I agree with many of their stances and policies? No. But as a free nation they have the right to set the nations agenda, that is freedom.

They suffered through a war that took an unimaginable toll on the public, something we as Americans cannot fully understand. Do I think they could show a little more backbone and stand up to the problems we face in today's world? Yes, but as I said I understand their stances even if it does frustrate me sometimes.

1. Does it matter? We saved them from Nazi-ism, gave them democracy, and so on. We know what we did, and what we did was right.

2. To call the armies of Europe "unarmed" is a bit off base.

They were ungrateful from the start.

Okay and I will counter that by saying both of my grandfathers were not allowed to parade through Paris thanks to De Gaulle. It has nothing to to do with the prospective Pansyism of Germany.

BTW, they certainly didn't mind the USA keeping the Soviets at bay for 45 years.

The citizens of Europe are unarmed peasants.

France, Germany, Russia are all strong military forces.

:eek:lol::eek:lol::eek:lol:

While strong for the short term. Russia could afford a real war for about a week.

France has NEVER had a strong military in modern times. The closest Germany is to a striong military force? The American forces stationed there.

Russia spends $33 Billion dollars a year on their military, with spending to go to $50 billion. France has the largest number of men in active service in the European Union, higher than that of ever Great Britain. Germany has over 250,000 active personnel, with 3,000 in Afghanistan, and they are training the Iraqi forces.

yah, but the largest organized group of prancing loons that have the fighting ability of a cup is still easily defeated with a bomb

France is a better ally than you guys are aware of.

And you are forgetting a military in Europe who is itching to bring back honor to their homeland. Who could quite possibly walk its way around Europe and take what it wants.

Russia's military is bankrupt. Many of their nuclear subs are literally rusting away while moored at the dock. They can't afford to maintain and operate them.

Russia's rusting navy

Poland's equipment and technology is antiquated and outdated. Their fighting capabilities today, would be the equivalent of their WWII horseback charges against Nazi tanks.

France or Germany as military force to be reckoned with, is laughable at best.
