Casey Anthony - The Decision Is In!

And the person next to you may not understand anyway. We had to keep telling 2 people it didn't matter what they thought because their thoughts were derived from assumptions rather than proof.

What's the point in having a jury if they're told what verdict to render? There was evidence in her car along with other evidence that could have & should have shown the jury that she was responsible. Do you not think other people have been convicted with less?

Am I correct in assuming that most people here think she killed her daughter? A toddler doesn't magically end up in a trash bag with duct tape in a swamp left to rot. Someone had to of placed her there, and yet there will never be justice for Caylee.

I think theres a good chance that she at least knows what happened.

Personally I have no doubt she did.

However, there isn't any solid evidence she did do it.

On a side note, how the identity of the father has never been known is completely beyond me.

Good chance that Casey had no idea as well. She told a friend that the father died in a car crash then told her the little girls father was a one night stand.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Casey turned up dead within the next year. There are many thugs and felons that aren't to fond of child killers.

Alan Dershowitz, a famous defense attorney, had some interesting things to say today. He said that America's legal system is not about justice. It pretty much revolves around "10 people that are guilty and get off is better than one person innocent serving time." He then goes onto state that the Military system we use, the Chinese system, and the Russian system all provide better results. I thought that was interesting coming from a well-known defense attorney.

Have you ever been the defendant in a capital case? I have.

Going for the death penalty is what set free. Overzealous prosecution.

It is really sad that the main reason that there was an acquittal here was the fact that there was so much time between when the girl died and when she was found (something Casey was at fault with because of the 31 day party trip). The decomposition of the body was so bad that proper forensics could not conclude everything that happened. While I do feel like there was enough evidence to convict, I don't think you can blame the jury because they had reasonable doubt. Another good point in this, is that the way the defense defined reasonable doubt was something that stuck in the jury's mind. You can poll 10 lawyers and they have a different definition of the term reasonable doubt. However, the defense team's definition is clearly what stuck with the jurors and based upon that then they had reasonable doubt.

In a capital case, it's usually the judge and not the defense giving a lengthy explanation to the jury about the concept of reasonable doubt.

I don't ever remember this being brought up in my time watching the case, but in an early morning accidental drowning (Casey finally agreed as to what happened when she said twice before that this was just some rumor that people brought up) wouldn't the child either have 1. Pajamas or 2. A swimsuit on? She had regular clothes on, and then the mother quickly dodged town soon thereafter.

Agreed, but Mason Cheney in the final remarks for the defense did a great job in giving his definition and then saying that if there was one ounce of doubt in your mind then you can't convict. Many lawyers will tell you that is not an accurate portrayal of reasonable doubt, but it is what many people think of when they hear reasonable doubt due to CSI, Law and Order, and even back further with Perry Mason.
