Casey Kelly (former recruit)

Seems like Vandy has always nipped at our A$$es...

They were actually a lot better than their record in 1914, but played a brutal schedule. One of their losses was to Michigan, the top team in the Midwest at the time, two were to unbeaten UT and Auburn (8-0-1), they lost close games to 10-1 UNC and 8-1 Virginia, and they lost to Sewanee by a point. Sewanee was also a regional power at the time. Their 1899 team was the first great team to play in the South.

Don't get too excited...he could be playing baseball and never see Neyland as a participant. Quite a talent from all I have heard.

He's definetly not 6'4 200+... around 6'2 190ish.

I don't really expect him to do much here even if he does decide to stay out of the pros for baseball.

I wasn't really trying to discredit him. That was one of the few truly good UT teams before Neyland, that one and the 1916 team (8-0-1), and I've always found it interesting.

When UT beat Vanderbilt in 1914, the school cancelled classes the next day, and Vandy accused UT of an "over-emphasis on sports." Some things never change...

It wasn't directed at you, but the collective bunch arguing with New coach about who knows more.

I know who George Cafego is. I knew he played in 38 but just threw the oldest name i could think of at that Q.

Should a kid know who Cafego is ?

Man you must be really old!

It took a while in a thread about Casey Kelly, but you proved that a 14 year old doesn't know everything.

Now you can find another 14 year old that says he knows everything and prove him wrong too.

How old are you?

kelly will not be in orange.....he signed the scholarship to make the MLB teams dish out that money to him...

One last player doing all he can move up in the first round is Sarasota (FL) High SS Casey Kelly. Like Smoak, he’s been on watch lists for this draft for two years and also like Smoak, coming into the season scouts started knocking parts of his game almost because they saw him too much and had to think of something different to say after awhile. He’s gained some momentum this spring with his silky-smooth defense and his athletic 6′3 frame. There are no doubts he’ll stick at shortstop and some have said he could play shortstop in the big leagues right now. (I saw him at the Sarasota Classic—scouting report on the way—and do not disagree). Along with a sound approach at the plate, a history of hitting versus good competition, and a dynamic personality, Kelly has endeared himself to scouts and drawn some Derek Jeter comparisons. Kelly also showed a low 90’s fastball and flashed a plus slider on the mound this weekend with multiple team executives in attendance. There are teams in the mid first-round showing heavy interest and with franchise shortstop upside and a scholarship to play QB at Tennessee in the fall, he may be a candidate for an out-of-the-box deal to teams like Detroit or the Yankees.

Update on Kelly's draft position.

I'm sure your right. Just getting burned by 5-7 yards is not always a good sign.

Eh I'm kind of biased too. He's a good guy that's worked his ass off to get to Tennessee, much less get a chance on the field.

He's looked really good in practice and scrimmages and then blew it on the opening snap in the O&W game.

stagefright?

Is Nick Reveiz still at Walk-on status or was he granted a scholarship? He seems like he has worked hard enough to receive one.
